So with the base plate installed the head slapping question was "what if I cut the same tapered cut into the base plate as well as the upper clip area? Would they still fit in the pouches? Obviously if so then a removed set of the baseplate wedges could be permanently installed in the hollow areas of the mag well rim and present a relatively complete look while still facilitating the desired functionality. I tried it and indeed it works. Trying to decide if that is the route I want to take?
They fit snug but slide in and out nicely. i did remove the inner snap strap that was designed to secure two stripper clips but this field expedient was commonly done by GIs to better accommodate enblock clips.

I ultimately decided that a tapered cut the length of both sides of the clips was the way to go and carefully selected my best outer cuts to attach permanently to the stock vacant mag wall area. The modified clips load seamlessly in and out and the exposed tapered seams although not perfect look acceptable to me. The sling helps hide it 90% of the time and it's cleaner looking than my second bat conversion mag well area. The tapered clips slide into and out of the Garand belt pouches now which was the ultimate goal of this endeavor. The matrix sidewalls of the clip when removed from the gun are unsightly and tend to snag on the canvass so this will be filled in with resin paste taking care the leave the mounting screw slots unfilled and the mag release slot. If anyone decides to tackle this adaptation to their ICS Garand just PM me with your email address and I will send you a series of pictures I took as I went along.

Obviously, since 2d Bat has done it, the ICS Garand could have been designed from the start with a mag that would fit in the M1923 cartridge belt. Makes you wonder what the designers are thinking.

They don't have their arms around our hobby obviously. If they did the clips would have been shaped like pseudo enblock clips so they'd look cool out of the guns and they'd slip nicely into and out of the Garand belt pouches. The Garands would have been WW2 specific with site locks. Machined handguard clips and single slot gas lug nuts. The sling hardware would be the right size and the dimensions would be closer if not spot on.
There would be a $150.00 to $170.00 spring powered Kar 98 that didn't have ejecting shells and shot at 400+ FPS with .20 gram. An AEG carbine would be available without a bayonet lug, with the simple peep site and the smaller box magazine. A para version would soon follow.
The fact is we are finally at a place where there is a decent choice of skirmishable weapons to choose from so I guess I can end my rant.
Two days modifying 10 clips and truth be told I'm not thrilled with the end result.
