I found this site an interesting report with some curious photographs showing a Spitfire of the RAF carrying beer kegs under the wings. I've never seen this. Can anyone tell what the purpose of it ? These Spitfires were to land on forward operating bases in France in the summer of 1944 and delivered the beer in the kegs to thirsty Tommies on the ground.

The extremely cold temperatures at altitude, quick cooled the beer which contrary to rumor was preferred even by the British.
