I have a question, what is you opinion on the following webbing questions. First which Y straps, Capt. Zak's has a black back ring part thingy (sorry don't know the name) while ATF and other sites has a brown leather ring part and claim their's is correct. Which is? Also, not like I am planing on getting it but, they claim the cotton DAK webbing is correct for late war and was planed to replace the leather. Is that true? sorry if I came off as noobish but I want to know. Thanks.

I use the DAK canvas y-straps for my '45 Charlemagne impression since they were seen used in the late war, as you correctly put it. I don't think they were as much a replacement for the leather as an attempt to make up for a lack of materials to make the conventional strap. Because the Northern Africa campaign was cut short, there was a large enough supply of unissued canvas gear that they were seen in the later part of the war.
Not sure however about the leather question...

I just would buy some leather y straps from Capt. Zak for your 9 SS impression.

I would agree there, the 9 SS would probably not have seen much canvas gear issued since in '44 they were on the Western front in France. Units like 30 Januar (SP?) and foreign conscription based units like Charlemagne would be the ones seen issued with inconsistent and more varied equipment. I will try to look through my sources tonight to see about use of canvas gear on the Western Front were Hohenstaufen would have been.

I would only use canvas for your 9 SS imp if its late war...but I think our unit covers all the war. Plus Zaks leather y straps havent failed me. Nothing like the smell of Fresh leather in the morning.
