Get them while they last. J&G Sales has Kar98 stocks at $29.95. Description says "need work", probably a bit on the rough side, but at $30 who cares. Thanks Tim D for the heads up. J and G Sales

It's worth mentioning that there's a reason they're so cheap:
"These stocks were shortened about 1/2" to 1" off the front. This cutdown appears to have been done by Yugoslavian arsenals after the war so they could replace the barrels with shorter ones. For this reason a bayonet will no longer fit."
Depending on the kind of conversion you're doing, this could be either not the end of the world or a complete deal breaker. That said, when you figure that the price of a bayo lug and cupped buttplate on their own are going to be in the $20 range... you do the math. Caveat emptor, but thanks for the heads up!

The other consideration of course is that some are warped, acquiring a stock band (with sling band) upper handguard. Rear and front sight, receiver group cosmetics etc. Depending on your own resourcefulness this could mean that a boneyard DBoys is going to perhaps pencil out better as all your needed parts of course are provided.
Having said that I'd love to see some enterprising individual buy 10 of these at 25.00 each and marry them to good powerful VSR base rifles and offer them up for sale to the community inexpensively? If you do the three part piecework approach using the donor stock to provide your butt stock and forearm I would think you could rectify the reduced length.
There is something very cool about rescuing otherwise derelict parts and putting them back into something serviceable.

I've ordered a couple. It will be interesting to see what arrives. I hadn't thought of cutting up a warped one for the three part conversion, but that's brilliant. Better than using the stock for firewood.

The three part approach which I tried for the first time on my mystery Mauser (there is a thread on it) worked really well and was much easier than the full on inletting of an actual stock. The unused portion from the center area might one day serve as firewood! I am very tempted to buy two or three of these myself.

There is something very cool about rescuing otherwise derelict parts and putting them back into something serviceable. Agreed. Even beat up 98k handguards aren't cheap, but one could cut down any number of other handguards (No 4 Enfield, etc.) to approximate one, or make some from scratch. There are some post-war aftermarket upper bands that are very cheap, and I think IDF lower bands aren't crazy either (though they don't perfectly match WWII German). But even getting great deals on all the stock parts, you still need front and rear sights/bases, and bolt handles. The boneyard DBoys is definitely the way to go, but if someone put in the time and had some luck, I think you could probably scrounge together parts for a conversion at a similar and possibly lower price. The benefit would be nicer parts, the drawback is that the metal and wood will be hardier and more difficult to work with.

The stocks came today. All in all they're not too bad. Definitely worn, but they're straight and not too dinged up. Both have cup buttplates. They're both shorter than the Dboys Kar98 stock. One is about 1/4 inch and the other about 1/2 inch.

1/4" doesn't sound too bad, I think that would be well within the realm for an airsoft "replica." I wonder how much was lopped off relative to a genuine 98k-- the wood DBoys stocks I have are not identical in length to 98k stocks, and are actually slightly off from each other.

Agreed, 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch off is not going to be noticed by anything but the most discerning eye. I ordered some and am anxious to get them. For these builds the goal will be "cheap as I can make them" and still produce an "at a glance" Airsoft Kar 98 that is skirmishable. That means lots of fabrication rather than acquisition of parts.

So, who's got a 3D printer to make Kar98 hardware?

Wouldn't that be nice. Sights some receiver group bits! Yeah that would be nice! I'm hoping I can score some inexpensive odds and ends at the gunshow this weekend.

Hi i did not want to start a new thread, but i have sourced a good price yugo m48 stock with some metal work. I don't seem to be able to get a Jg bar10 ,will a cyma m701 be a good bet,i understand the cylinder is vsr compatible. Will it fit the original Mauser stock or not, obviously it will need modification. Or do i need the well mb001 (possible typo)which is narrower on the barrel and receiver, well guns scare me, never heard anyone say any thing good about well. shoot and scoot sell the ASG Varmint which i believe is narrower also. I think TM guns are ace but a lot more money will need more cash to get the fps up

The VSR 10 receiver is just about the same diameter than the KAR98 receiver or maybe a hair smaller. The M701 is slightly wider, but it will fit if you open up the stock a little. Then the tubes forward from the receiver to the upper handguard have to be inletted. The biggest PIA is opening up the stock to accommodate the trigger box. Seems like it takes forever to make it fit. Always something hanging things up and you can't see what it is. There's also a metal stock reinforcement in front of the original magazine well that has to be ground or cut down a little to make room. The barrel channel in front of the receiver has to be opened up to accommodate the tube in front of the VRR10/M701 receiver.

Hi all, One of my recent project is a VZ 24 - G24 build for which I used a SW M24.
What seems to be a huge issue was the magwell that is just too wide for the stock. Actually the VZ 24 stock is thinner than the K98 one towards front. If Yougo M48 is the same, you might get into difficulties with this build.
I hope this helps!
I tried to add an edifying picture, but for whatever reason it says this forum exceeded the capacity to do so.

Thanks for that info,i have now rejected the M48 stock idea,it has more differences than i want,i can get a ww2 k98 stock for an extra 40 euros from the same supplier,i can get a sight leaf, but no base or adjuster bar,i may have to make those, but it will take some time to do them.

So, who's got a 3D printer to make Kar98 hardware? I second that, even pvc formed stuff would be a godsend.

These kind of deals seem to turn up from time to time. Hopefully someone on our board will spot them when they do and share what they find with the rest of us. I got in the stocks I ordered. Two with cupped plates and one with a flat Butt plate. Converted all three doing each as a three part marriage leaving my BAR 10 center stock portion intact. Lucked out and found essential bits at a gun show. A 3d printed set of sights (front and rear) would sure help projects like this along with a front and center stock band. Trigger guard and mag cap would also be nice. Even if the cost was comparable not having to chase these items down or fabricate them individually would be a huge time saver. Naturally all of this would be moot if CYMA or DBoys or S&T offered a reasonable non shell ejecting Springer Kar98!

I second that! I discussed with someone about printing the bolt closure and safety flag and printed in ABS would cost arround 25-30.$. You can find real steel in Europe from some dealers for less than this. J It is just the hassle with what you can have and what not per each country law. A bolt or receiver will be illegal if not destroyed by welding or sawing in most EUROPE.
But a cheap printed trigger guard/ magazine holder as well as rear sight base would be really nice to get. By cheap I mean 15 $ each. Not sure if feasible.
