My aggressor force needs at least one MG and at long last there is a relatively affordable offering from AGM / Matrix but alas I have heard mixed reviews about their reliability and durability. I am going to attempt a home build copying others efforts here on the forum.
I have most all the necessary materials on hand. The plan is to do it in ABS and wood. Like my recent G43 the goal will be an "at a glance" replica with primary focus on simplicity, and skirmishability and since it will be a loaner/ rental I can't have too much $$$$z wrapped up in it.
Base gun will be an AK.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses. I bought the MG42 plans from Air Sharp (I think it was) several years ago, but like most plans I occasionally look at them and think "one of these days."

I didn't realize Airsharp had MG 42 plans. I used his templates and made a half dozen M1919 30 Cals along with N M1917 Water cooled MGs (I kept one of each). There is a guy who sells blue prints for virtually every gun but I didn't order them.
I am starting out on the butt stock which is a rather unique looking piece. I am cutting out the shape in a series of repetitious layers building the layers with openings for a battery and wiring. I have made laminant stocks before but never with interior chambers beyond very basic.
By slightly progressing the size smaller and smaller as I work outward shaping should be minimalized. It took me all day to draw out and then cut the needed layers. There is not as much available space as I was hoping for but a 9.6 volt battery will fit just fine..

After examining many many photos and specs I decided to start with the butt stock which I drew patterns out off on a concentric series of thin pieces of wood that would form the rough outer shape while providing a channel for the battery and wiring. Once cut out and stacked they were glued and clamped. Once dry shaped by a rasp and dremel, final sanding and stained. Next the barrel and receiver group which will use ABS plastic I have on hand and hopefully mostly items around.

This project ended up.many years later as a couple MG34s which I started a whole new thread on having been inspired by the efforts of another member. I did another butt stock following this same approach but in place of the 42s square housing and quick change barrels I used 2" ABS tubing around a lengthened inner barrel.

Okay! excellent. Please do post your build. It always inspires me to tackle something new and for whatever reason I never finished an MG42.
