Another video from Forgotten Weapons. This time it's a prototype semi-auto rifle designed by an American and tested by the Canadian. The idea was to build a semi-auto using as many parts as possible from the No. 1 Mk. III Enfield. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOgw59_lt7oA pretty cool and clever design, but as Ian says, horribly complex so it had no realistic possibility of being adopted. But thing of the possibilities if it had and the British had picked it up. A semi-auto airsoft rifle for Brit players. That would be cool.

What a cool variant of the Enfield. I have often considered putting semi automatic airsoft guts in a bolt action looking body for playability purposes. I really like the overall look of this rifle. It truly combined the old with the new. Had the box magazine been detachable and perhaps expanded to 15 rounds there might have been some tactical advantages over and above cold weather performance. The complexity absolutely would have been an issue and field stripping and no doubt cleaning would have been extremely challenging. The adjustable porting might have reduced the need somewhat?
Really a cool video series. Ian does a great job on them.

I've thought the same thing about building a semi-auto "bolt action." It looses authenticity, but in practical terms, in airsoft play you're at such an enormous disadvantage you might as well put on one of those kamikaze head band things if you use a bolt action.
