Here's a picture that was posted at Forgotten Weapons. Two German soldiers with a bunch of captured American weapons. No information about where or when, but one commenter suggested it might be Italy, possible Anzio and the aftermath of the fighting at Cisterna where two Ranger battalions were destroyed. What I find interesting is the camouflage uniforms they're wearing. I'm guessing it's Italian, at least the guy on the left. The guy on the right is harder to tell. Also interesting is that he has two models of Thompson.

Italian camo adopted by German soldiers occurred quite a bit (relatively speaking) and some made their way into troops fighting in the Normandy campaign. Trousers most commonly, some caps. It would fall under the category of "flair" so probably frowned upon for our purposes. I think your observation about the source and timing of this picture is probably spot on. Good eye spotting the M1a1 and M1928. I agree these were probably captured Ranger weapons. The guy on the right appears to be wearing an FJ splinter jump smock and trousers and yet are not sporting FJ helmets? Definitely a fascinating picture.
