I just scored my latest pice of gear this morning via ebay. A 1935 Opel Luxus Bicycle. Can't wait to receive this baby and cruise around at the Rockford reenactment. I know this post is pointless but I had to share with someone. ;D

Nice deal Zak, I was eyeing that one myself for a bit as well. Glad to see someone here managed to win it. ;D

isn't a Fahrrad a motorcycle? Either way, it's sexy. Go out on morning bike-rides in your Uniform and try to race all the Armstrong's.

Now all we need is pictures of you popping some sweet wheelies in full German garb and the impression will be complete!

~Update~ Just finished converting a '60's Schwinn into another WWII era Fahrrad. Soon as it's all back together I will post some shots of both.

I'm curious to know how you go about converting a 60s era Schwinn. I have many of them at my disposal and would like to put a bike together as well.

Essentially all you are using is the frame. It has to be a straight frame with a fixed gear and at least 24" from the fork to the seat post. So a large frame.
Then you need to locate proper handle bars, grips, bell, light, saddle, fenders. Strip the frame, paint it, reassemble it, get the proper tires, presta valve innertubes and you're good to go. Then you'll need the "cool stuff" like ammo boxes and rear fender rack.
It's almost cheaper to buy a real one but good luck trying to find one in the US. I got lucky when I bought the 1935 Opel.

I wonder if buying a modern dutch bicycle wouldn't be a better route. They really haven't changed much in the past 60 years.

Very cool. That was on US ebay? I have a couple of 50's Raleigh (British) bikes. They look virtually identical to WWII era, but of course still always better to have the real deal.
Nice score.

Thanks Schmitty. I now have a "real" fahhrrad and a conversion that I am 90% finished with. I just need the proper saddle and grips. I'll post some shots when it is complete.
