Hey, finally back on here. I was just curious, I now want to do a wehrmacht sniper impression, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to put together. Here's the field gear I want to get, but tell me if I should get more, or if something is wrong for a sniper to carry:
EM Belt Combat Y-strap Pair of K98 Pouches Breadbag Messkit Canteen K98 Bayonet and Frog P08 Holster
I know a e-tool would probably be out of the question, but if anybody has any ideas, I could sure use them.
FYI: I just watched "Enemy at the Gates". That's why I want to do a sniper impression, but I'm not basing it off of Major Konig's uniform.

You prolly wouldn't carry a messtin, as they make a lot of noise, bayonets get in the way. You might wear Y-straps. You want to be comfortable, laying on Kar98 pouches isn't. Also it depends on what type of "sniper" you are doing. Sharpshooter, with the foward mounted scope 1.5x or Sniper with the tower mounted 4x scope.

thanks. i want to get a tower mounted scope. i don't like the one that is way up toward the front. besides that, would they pretty much wear the exact same uniform as the regular infantry? like zelts and parkas?

No clue. Though as you know the germans were masters of disguise, and the burlap around the weapon was common. ANother item that would be good to pic up is the vail or mask that you see not all the time, but every once in a while. Thats about all i can help you with, i know though that in Enamy at the gates, i believe Konig is wearing a type of mountain winter parka. -Cary

yeah, i was thinking that a M42 mountain anorak might work, but then again it'd be in my best interest to put together an entire mountain troop uniform.

What time period? Tthe late war M43 (marsh) smock was developed for wehrmacht snipers and has a hood with face screen attached. I have one and it is a great pattern for late summer/fall use. Replica's run around $75 from places like Spearhead in HK. M43 marsh/tan and water smock: Standard z31 splinter parka for comparison of patterns.

Or the snipers umbrella if you want to stay away from veils...it was an umbrella basically with no cloth on it. You would weave brush or branches into the arms of the umbrella giving your front cover.

The umbrella is actually in one of those videos in the link I posted, they explain how to use them in detail.

The "sharpshooter" would wear Y-staps and ammo pouches etc... The sniper would be in a smock, field cap, ammo pouches would be turned towards the back so you wouldn't be lying on it. Pistol holster would be in the square of the back. You wouldn't carry stuff you don't need. extra things would be left behind. For example, you wouldn't have a messtin or shovel, maybe not even a breadbag.

snipers haved all the normal things that a german soldier haved to carry but they left them in the command post has well their personal items and soldbuch in the field you should carry Y straps, belt, bayonet, water botle, k98 mag pouch, p08 or p38 holster even a ppk (It would be look nice a captured .45 at least I whant one I allready have a tanaka luger whit holster but have problems to find forane here in venezuela). back to the subject bread bag maybe be usefull to carry stick granades and a a note book to take notes of your observation on the field has did the snipers and you could carry extra mags for your tanaka k98 by the way tanaka k99 mags dont fit on k98 pouches but they don on g43 ones so maybe you should get the g43 pouches or carry the mags on the bread bag. for airsoft skirmishing the e-tool maybe is useless (depending in how long is the game or event you are taking part) but in the real think sniper allways bringed whit them a e tool in fack iff you read sniper 10 commandments you in commandment number 5 you see it was a very important think that sniper should carry whit him all the time:
The snipers ten commandments 1944: 1. Fight fanatical 2. Shoot calm and contemplated, fast shots lead nowhere, concentrate on the hit 3. Your greatest opponent is the enemy sniper, outsmart him 4. Always only fire one shot from your position, if not you will be discovered 5. The trench tool prolongs your life 6. Practice in distance judging 7. Become a master in camouflage and terrain usage 8. Practice constantly, behind the front and in the homeland, your shooting skills 9. Never let go of your sniper rifle 10. Survival is ten times camouflage and one time firing
for camuflage you could use ANYTHING that you could build in the field whit your own hands you could wear nets and put vegetation and get under if you use a helmet you could use this camuflage covers.
has I said the snipers haved all the normal field equipment tha a german soldier haved it goes for uniform too in camuflage it depends of you (they didnt identifi snipers whit a espetial camo cuz the enemy could do ti too iff they did) but wermacht snipers I think they used normalle the tan water smock I dont know if SS snipers used it zelbahts are a good option too.

He is like a DM A actual sniper, is at the company level and is tasked out by higher ups. In airsoft most "snipers" are sharpshooters/DMs. So do a sharpshootoer impressions, where like what has been said, wear the standard infantry gear and uniform.

Snipers= as little gear as posible.
Get as much camo as you can, lots of twigs etc. Hold your ammo in the pockets of your tunic..
