Hello all!
I've recently acquired an AGM MG42, and as expected, the finish is less than desirable. What's the best way known to make aluminum (presumably, I hope it isn't pot metal) look more like gunmetal?

I find if you look closely at detailed close up pictures of as many MG 42s as you can you will see quite a variation in appearance once fielded. There will however be some consistent wear patterns and you can replicate them with silver paint applied and then "swiped" with a light rag. More effective is to use steel wool or light grit sandpaper paper and "age" it appropriately.
Just as it is a pet peace of mine how pristine and polished vintage cars are in movies so too am I bothered by immaculately new looking guns at period airsoft games.
