Hello guys , today i have a very important question. As you may know , in the past i was playing airsoft with my friends and we had a lot of fun.Now , we want to create a really organized ww2 airsoft group. It will be some us infantry and airborne agains wehrmacht. So far so good but here comes my question.Since i'm the group commander i have to give them some ranks and some "duties " ( scouting, assaulting.....) .How can i do that ? I mean , how can i understand how's the best one for that rank in the us unit .I'm a 1st Lt. so i would need some sgts.cpls. and pvts. Also , since we are a small group what do you think we should do: wait and buy equipment or make it home ? And what about uniform and realism? Any answer would be appreciated.Best regards

Do what you can with regard to impressions and weapons understanding that it's a journey that has no end arrival destination. There are ALWAYS additional items to add and all of your team mates will have assorted budgets and levels of interest. You probably already know which players gravitate to which roles. Some are just naturally better at point man/ scouts, while others are more comfortable assuming a role where they are responsible for others.
The truth is it's all fantasy so being a sgt/ lt/ Captain or General for that matter is just make believe. If it were up to me I'd like to see rank be somewhat in line with the number of men you lead. A sgt would in reality lead 10 to 12 men, a corporal 5. A lieutenant 30 to 40 a Captain somewhere around 200. With combat attrition obviously these numbers were often much smaller but Airsoft ranks are just silly when people affix ranks upon themselves way above the numbers they are actually leading. Because of limited range 13 man squads are impractical. (even with tighter dispersion they can't cover all members during fire and manuever). For that reason I'm a fan of six or seven man squads (for airsoft). With 3 such sized squads forming a platoon lead by a lot and platoon sgt that means 20 to 23 guys to a platoon. My recommendation is appoint yourself a Lt. when you have that many players in your group.

Where are you located at? There are a few good groups scattered across the US. It might help us direct you to your "local" ww2 group which will help guide you. Glad to see new interest!
