I have a local group that wants to do German for our October skirmish in Wisconsin ("Patton Unleashed" thread in the Midwest Event section.) They are an experienced airsoft team, but this will be their first WW2-era event. They have piles of Flecktarn, and have asked me if there is ANY way that 90s-era German equipment can be made to approximte any sort of 40s-era field uniform. I don't know, can it be done? This will be a WW2AA Green level skirmish.
I know this is an ignorant question. Please don't flame me, I do Red Army myself and know very little about German camo patterns. Personally, I recommended that they come as Volkssturmen, because I can make them armbands easily and have a number of WWI-era fiberglass repro stahlhelmen on hand.

No, Fleck looks like nothing from WWII. Some things could be used but looked down upon. NVA belts, E.German Police/Para Y-straps. But this is 60s era Post War gear.
Nothing from the 90s looks like equipment from the 40s
Green - WWII Impression required. Modern weapon may be used. Complete kit authenticity not enforced. Mixed units allowed within same alignment (always Allies vs Axis).
Good idea about the Volksstrum, they would fit better there.

I agree with Jager Dru and believe your impulse to have them attend as volksturm, resistance, partisan is the right one. Besides fitting in much better they can be used in plain clothes to balance scenarios. I would not like to see a non WW2 impression at a WW2 event.

Thanks for the advice, that's pretty much what I figured but thought I'd better check.

The main thing is that we want them to feel comfortable at the event and not worrying about sticking out. They'll feel better in some easily attainable civilian duds from the Goodwill. Besides, after they see many of us running around is cool looking and authentic German duds, they'll want to do that
