I bought a used ICS M1 Garand a while back. Been in the closet for a couple years since I haven't gotten out to play in forever. Anyway, it has a problem. The gas tube and foregrip are loose. They'll slide right off the end of the barrel. I've looked, but haven't found anything that obviously is there to hold them in place. Anyone know? In the real steel the gas tube locking nut is threaded on the barrel, but this one just slides in place.

I think if memory serves me well there is a grub screw under the front site. You must remove it to get to it. I am not home otherwise Id go out and take a look. I am curious while we are on the subject to know if anyone has tried putting on a real gas assembly in place of the oversized ICS part? It was never so distracting to me to warrant it but I know some people found it off putting.

Yep. There it was. Thanks. Never thought to look under the front sight. Seems like they really need a little beefier screw there, especially if you're going to carry the rifle slung. I tried a RS gas cylinder. It won't fit. The ICS barrel is a little too large in diameter.

Glad I was able to help. Do you think the barrel size discrepency is close enough to drill out the RS part a little bit so it would fit? I only ask because I have a half dozen Garand complete gas assemblies in my parts bin that I was going to use in M14 conversions.
These are visually perfect but out of spec for use on an actual functional Garand.
