Its a french language edition of 'militaria' magazine, all the stuff in it is original, they dont deal with repro or re-works.
The article is on 2nd panzer div as they moved to the beaches in normandy.
Note as well the period pics show lots of things that 'dont happen' according to experts liek jack boots on new recruits in 44 (i might not have scanned that pic but there is a lad who looks *very* young pushing the company wheelbarrow wearing jackboots, the rest have 30/70 split of jackboots and low boots with or without gaiters.
pics also show lots of m36 tunics in use as well.

Here is a helmet paint scheme i just finished painting, the ever popular Normandy tri color on an FJ 38. the images are a tad sharper in color than the actual. needs some dirt patina on it to really sell the condition its in.........also the chin straps are the right color with some staining, they just appear much darker in the shadow of the shot. just sharing for the fun of it.... Thanx Tom THE REGIMENT

Here is a web page with some very good tips! I used his aging tips for my Kreta '41 helmet, I sanded it it bare around the rim, bolts and some high wear/damage spots after a nice semi textured coat of Feldgrau dunkel from 1944 militaria. It took some time to age and rust 'bout 3 days or so and I found that plain old salt water from the bay down the road works in half the time! But since you poor ole' midwest fellows don't have access to such a wonderful resource you can use this concochtion which also will work for rusting and aging all those bright poultry wire baskets! Aging Metal Parts: To make new steel or brass parts look old, you can use this formulae: (2) oz. Lemon or Lime juice (2) oz. Chlorine bleach (2) oz. Vinegar (1) Tablespoon of salt
Mix well, and immerse parts in the solution for 30 minutes or longer, depending on how much you want to accelerate the oxidization. When you have the desired amount of oxidization, rub with steel wool. You can use some gun bluing or browning to tone the finish, then seal with clear. This formulae works great when aging chicken wire camo baskets.
Aging New Leather Parts: New Chin straps and liners can be made to look old with a little time and effort. Try using a little brown or black paste shoe polish on a rag. Soot from the oil lamp also works on leather too. Do a little at a time, and don't overdo it! You can always add more, but if you overdo it, you probably won't be able to undo what you did. Fine sandpaper and steel wool are also useful to make the leather look worn or remove the gloss.Check these out: www.military-steel-helmets-and-decals.com/decal_and_helmet_aging_tips.htmwww.1944militaria.com/german_helmet_paint_and_decals.htmwww.1944militaria.com/equipment_spray_paint.htm

@ Tom: Look awesome! I really like the aging effect! @ Dru: Looks ok, but I think I like the string net better, but whatever floats your boat. It is your helmet after all Click

The net is cool, but it loves to catch on things, like branches when I'm running.

Well, this been my helmet since I got it. (2 years) I painted it right away, not the best but got a little Normandie feel.

hey paladin6, do you paint these for people, and if so, i would be interested possibly in a while about getting a helmet painted. i haven't bought a helmet yet (switching jobs, haven't been hired yet) and when i get one, i would love a great paintjob.

airsoft commie, I don't. Not being jerky, its just that i don't have much time and I need to keep this hobby a hobby and not my job if you know what I mean. I'm a creative director M-f so I need an art break by weeks end, doing my own helmets covers that, once i start doing it more broadly, that peace will be gone.
I'll be happy to share tips with anyone interested in doing their won however.

Hey, no prob! I'll take some tips though when I get my helmet. I'm kind of an artistic kind of guy and would actually love trying my hand at painting a helmet and "weathering" it up a bit!

If it comes in a dark grey then just give it a light random overspray with tamiya dunkelgelb, do it lightly at first and then you can always add more later.

Before After I just painted up two more helemts in FJ two color Normandy pattern. While the base coat seems bright, its the flash and fresh paint. Once dirtyed up they will blend right in.

Nice, you'd get less drips if you kept the spray further back and did multiple passes though.
Although i guess rough and ready is a bit more authentic than a 'perfect' paint job.

Did mine tonight with spray paint. Its alright. Gets the job done. WW2 airsoft up here isn't all that big anyhow. I did the Gas mask can because I'm a dork.

Looks good. I like the camo'd can. 15$ for spray paint, 15$ for WAY more than you need chicken wire. I couldn't find any small portions. This was pretty much a test, but I thought it turned out VERY well, so did everything. As for the can, tried to do a little research on if they actually bothered doign anything like that (cept for winter) and couldn't find anything. Personaly, I think it looks bad ass!

You do see camo'd cans. I have seen a couple of orginals do up. I really like that can, if I still had mine I would camo it as well.
Personally I would kick the helmet around a bit and then put on the chicken wire.

I've seen cans given a dunkelgelb overspray but i cant see why anyone would go to the effort of a three colour job on a ressie case on your back.
The point of camming helmets is that if you're moving tactically the only part of you body that is (or should be) visible is your head so it makes sense to cam it well.
I agree it looks quite good but how common was it?

that looks great. does anybody have any advice on what size of helmet to get? i found out i'd need a 68, but my hat size is 7 1/2, so what do you guys recommend? i know size 68 is hard to come by, so i'm at a loss. They're not that hard to come by. Keep checking eBay. If you're still looking for paint job ideas, here's a M40 I did:

Here a couple of my helmets: The first one is a original german M42 helmet that I have repainted in the "Normandy" camo pattern. Number two is also a original german M40 helmet that I had professionaly repainted

I thought I would show off my latest paint scheme. I re-tried the 3-color Normandy scheme. Look Ma, no decals. ;D This is a member's helmet in my squad. He trusted me with it. If I change anything it will be the hooks on the net. I might just go to wire for those. But painted they don't look as bad as before and they make latching and unlatching the net pretty easy.

Ersatz, try repainting it but while the first layer is still wet sprinkle a bunch of dirt on it - will greatly reduce the shine.
