Civil War Battles - Animated Maps.

The American Battlefield Trust channel has a series of animated maps for Civil War battles. They're very well done, with a voice over narration explaining what happened and maps showing the movement of units, interspersed with period photos and video of reenactments. I've always found it difficult to grasp who was where and where they were going while reading about battles. These are very helpful.

Wow those are fabulous. Like you I have struggled to grasp the dynam ics of civil war battles but these depictions really claryfy how these historic events unfolded.

Just as in airsoft battles defense with a mobile reserve is easier to control than offensive action so too was the case in the 1860s.

I cannot fathom standing tall in formation and letting people shoot at me.

More Americans lost their lives in the Civil war than all other US wars combined. Just the 3 day battle of Gettysburg had comparable losses to the Korean and Vietnam wars. Both sides of course.
