When I first heard the term BB drop I assumed people were talking about the trajectory a BB has when there is no hop up putting back spin on the BB. In fact players are typically whinning about the 3 or 4. bBs that typically fall out of the mag well whenever you change mags. These BBs are the inevitable result of the gap between the top of the magazine and the actual chamber up in the airsoft gun. The mag spring can only push to the stopper at the top of the magazine. If you have a hi cap or even a mid cap those 3 or 4 BBs kther than being annoying are typically no big deal but in WW2 airsoft where we often load magazines that hold 30 rounds or less it's kind of a big deal.
I am an advocate for low cap magazines as changing clips or magazines adds to authenticity. Sadly a single hit (especially beyond about 100 feet are seldom felt. Thick Wool overcoats further contribute to the problem. For that reason I like seeing 3 rounds mag capacity for whatever a real weapon would have. A thompson 20 round holding 60 rounds sounds about right. A Garand holding 24 instead of 8 works for me. 3 quick shots replicates a single round sent down range. Typically a playing will notice 2 or 3 quick hits in short succession. This still requires frequent reloads.
My Garand conversion shortened mags only hold 13 rounds with the flush style applesauce gun type mags and up to 24 in the converted springer M14 mags. A strategy that I have found worthwhile is to fully load your mag but prior to loading it, turn your airsoft gun upside down and drop BBs in until the channel gap is filled then while the gun is still upside down load your clip. Fire until empty (nothing coming out) and turn the weapon upside down (so the channel Bbs dont fall out) and pop out your empty mag and load your next full one.
Incidently though not authentic you can fire the weapin upside down and send the final 2 or 3 channel BBs toward your target using gravity to feed those last few BBs. Keep in mind that with hop up your BBs will spin pronouncedly downward. Unless desperate my recommendation is turn the rifle upside down and reload.
It always annoys me to read airsoft gun reviews where people complain that 2 or 3 BBs always drop out when reloading. BB drop is almost always normal. One of the few exceptions are the BAR 10 type guns where the magazines have a upward protruding nipple
