Just stumbled on this and found it interesting. The British Army is forming a Ranger Regiment of four battalions. I came across this in a video on the new British service rifle, the L403A1, which is an AR-15 derivative from Knight's Armaments. It's been adopted by the Royal Marines and according to the Wiki page on it, by the Ranger Regiment, which I had not heard of before. You have to wonder why they need Rangers when they have the SAS, the SBS and the Royal Marine commandos, but according to the writeups their focus is more like the US Green Berets than the US Rangers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_Regiment_(United_Kingdom)

So more like linguists, teachers and insurgency groomers than direct action? Ive read SBS stuff. Those guys are crazy. Sub surfaces in the North Sea at night and you and your battle buddy pack a foldable canvas kayak out on the deck and launch it and go do a Recce on a IRA farm house in swells. Another time they got stranded on an ice berg in Norway and almost froze to death. It’s definitely not San Diego or USN…. Their gear is crap, their navy is limited and they are forced to improvise a lot.
