both are fine weapons. Just understand that if you go the M1A1 Carbine route you are looking at around $300 for the M1 itself then another $150 to $200 to find a repro folding stock. Of course the Marushin M1 Garand will set you back a bit over $500 with a extra clip or two, so its about the same. Then the major difference between them is the Garand is true semi-auto with 7 rounds (8 won't fit in the clip well unfortunately) and the Carbine has the 15 round magazine, but it requires 'cocking' after each shot, which doesnt really slow you down that much, but still a slower process than the Garand. As far as range and accuracy, both my M1A1 Carbine and M1 Garand shoot in the 420 - 460 range on GreenGas and are quite accurate to the 100 ft range. The other consideration is size and weight, the Garand will be a bear to tote around all day, but it builds character I say! -G

I can fit 8 rounds in the Garand, if you get the Carbine, the clips for it cost $43 apiece, were as the Garand clips are only $10 bux a piece.

Really? Mine won't and I have 2 clips, plus I'm all freaky about wearing the spring out- Maybe as I continue to break them in.

I agree that I can fit eight rounds in each clip but like Guiness I prefer to put 7 in as I've seen too many posts about failing clips after little use and I think it may be the stress on the clip springs. I do know this. Don't leave them loaded when not in use. Very hard on the springs. For a skirmish I'll definitely load the 8 though as every round counts!

Dirty, don't worry about the max'd out AEGs. I've killed plenty of fools with them when I had my Marushin Kar98 (5 shots...bolt action) only because I was smart, advanced fast and destroyed their advantages.

Get throughly familiar with the Garand and comfortable with it's operation, range and accuracy and get good at changing clips and you'll be fine. Factor three rounds per exposed target and don't plan on being the surpession/ recon by fire guy!

Hey, what if I put real M1 clips in? Would that screw it up, 'cause I've got at least fifty of 'em.

Well I dont think they will fit, plus as real as these guns strive to be to their real steal, they are made on purpose to not be compatible with the real steal ammo/clips

Shameless plug here. Buy a Marui M-14 and save up to adapt my kit into a pseudo Garand and you'll be competitive with anyone on the field (Weapon wise) and look good doing it. Savings in Gas, headaches and problems are an important consideration.
In spite of my best efforts and continuos practice I never could get the Marushin Garand clip transfer any where near as smooth and effortless as a real Garand. 8 shots and an aw s%#@ just never really worked for me. Nor did gassing on the field after 30 rounds.
There is no cooler gun to shoot and plink with then the Marushin M1 garand I absolutely loved both of mine but for skirmishing the carbine is better and the Garand AEG is better still.
