well if still British then Home Guard-after all you only have one life....... If American then hmm Commisariate- the ledger says no.... if Russian then NKVD-extra everything..... if German.....hum......abstain? if Italian front line army ;-) (remember the old chestnut of the latest Italian tank-13 reverse gears and 1 forward) ;-) no offence to any Italians btw as the Ariete, Folgore and other divisions fought hard in the Western Desert as one of my Uncles (ex 8th Army Desert Rat) attested...

for us. probably either Navy or Infantry. I'd be a lot more leniant to go fight if the bad guys were shooting something other than 6mm or blanks at me, but if i was assigned or really needed, I'd probably go. Navy would probably be my option (more for nowaday's than in ww2) because 1. cant beat good meals and a bunk on a regular basis 2. seems like you can remain in the navy for a longer time than the infantry 3. getting shot doesnt sound like fun for me, and 4. It would put my good maritime skills to better use. Not to bash on any of the navy guys out there who have certainly done much more than scrub the decks, just my opinions and observations.

For me it's wasn't hypothetical INFANTRY the queen of battle. Airborne and Ranger school were Both required courses in my day for regular Army combat arms branches. I'm old but I'm still incredibly slow! I'm proud to have eaten snakes and jumped out of perfectly good airplanes (ALOT!) Hooah! i've eaten snakes to, and drunk there blood and bile with booze. I would have taken airborne, but i'm very sure i'd make a lousy soldiers. I hate to run, I don't even like fireworks, so how I would take beeing fierd on I can only guess. I get eczema if I sweat. I can shoot like a pro but that dosn't help much. I'm good at beeing a fake soldier but a real one I could never be. Thats why I have great respect for anybody that puts on the uniform of ones country

Heer infantry or Panzer crewman would be my first choice, although I have an affinity for the Kriegsmarine > Unterseebootwaffe!

Been there, wore uniforms for real, just not in WW2 (although I'm starting to feel old enough to have been in it). Knowing what I know, I would NEVER have gone combat arms in WW2, too high a death rate to suit me. I'd have gone into logistics. You can hear the guns and be in the theater, but you rarely got shot at!

P51, Your branch was Infantry wasn't it? How long were you in? If not Infantry with your interest in details I could see you as an excellent MI Officer?

I was Ordnance, but was prepping for SF when my leg injuries forced me to leave active duty...
