Okay fellas, I've decided to get back into WW2AA, and need some of your guy's opinions. Should I go with an airborne impression, or infantry? If so, 101st or 82nd airborne, or the 29th infantry or 2nd rangers. Also, should I get an m1 garand, or thompson. Both problems have been solved, the m1 garand is an AEG, and tommy gunner I see fixed the 20 round mags. The problem is i cant wait on the m1 garands, as i think 2nd bat is slowing down on production of them, and tommy gunner i think uses them for personal use. Also, I like the 8 round shell ejection on the maurshin, but dont like the 245fps and gas power of it. So either TM thompson, or AEG or maurshin m1 garand? I know it's alot, but I want to start out again right. Thanks!

I would do infantry. I wouldnt do a unit already out there, the ww2aa is gonna just be made up of 101st airborne, rangers and 45th, I would try to start a new unit, some infantry that has never been really recognized in the WW2AA. If your a beginner go with the TM Thompson, though I would go with the marushin garand. Yes it is alot of work to get it running but from how I see it its worth it in the end.

well what would i need to get the m1 garand like working, as in okay for skirmishing. I have a friend who is going to get me a 410fps upgraded TM thompson, 6 mags 30 round mags, and a CAW wood kit on it. I really really love the m1 garand, and it would look out of place for a enlist man to have a thompson. Could you give me some details on upgrading the m1 garand. Any owners have any comments about it, in the heat of battle? Easy to reload and pick up clips? Yes, its down to 2nd rangers or 29th infantry, hahaha.

I say you do whatever you want because the Abn vs. Inf debate is OLD.

Nimlas brings a good point...this could start a Flame war...Id prevent something bad from happening, maybe change the title. As for the Garand, how tall are you? Im not saying this is how they were issued but seeing a 5ft tall person with a garand, really it wouldnt work out too well, maybe a carbine or thompson. It wouldnt look like the gun "Fits" you. Even if you really want the Garand I would stick with the thompson, especially the one your buddy is givin you. Start a 29th ID imp, then let others who do the same imp join you, then when you have a couple of guy start a team.

I'm about 5 8', 125 pounds, I know... don't even say it! Yeah, but I love to be a rifleman rather than a SMGunner, but eh, good deal i guess. Well, I dont want to keep changing the topic from unit to weapon, but whats a good solid standard loadout?

A thompson...and a good amount of mags...and Im not sure but I dont know if regular infantry would carry a colt .45. Theres debates going on about only officers carrying them...correct me if Im wrong.

If you were to go with a very basic infantry impression, you would need a helmet, wool shirt and pants, M41 jacket, cartridge belt, haversack, and canteen and cover. Thats if you were to do rifleman. If you were to be a submachine gunner, you would have a pistol belt, either 3 or 5 cell mag pouch, canteen and cover, and carlisle bandage. You would not necessarily have a sidearm, as men who were not NCO's or officers would have them in the infantry. HBTs are also an option, as they were worn underneath the 41 jacket and over wools, depending on your preference. It really depends on the unit, and the time period you are wishing to represent.

So basically find out your unit and time period before you ask what gear youll need.

Dont forget that m14rifleman is working on creating a kit to convert his M14 into a garand. If I remember correctly, you said recently that you have an M14. You could ask him how he is doing it and convert your rifle to a garand yourself. So my vote is get a Garand weather it is a gas or AEG. And on the topic of what impression you shoud do I would say do a unidentified infantryman and once you get a team started you can all decide together what unit you want to portray.

To many people that's the most interesting time. Or the one that had the most movies made about it...or HBO series... Lol. There was no fighting in the Mediteranean or North Africa of course, or else it would have been well documented on celluloid by Hanks and Spielberg by now... A thought: Why not do 28th Infantry Division? Sure they didn't land on Omaha on D-Day (and hence didn't get Spielberged all over the big screen), but they did participate in the Normandy Campaign, Huertgen Forest, Battle of the Bulge, and the Colmar Pocket. You got the local connection too, since they were Pennsylvania National Guard.

The Bloody Bucket was a great unit. I always suggest selecting a unit with tons of days on the line through as many periods of the war as possible. The big red one is a great outfit as is the 45th. You could always be a mech infantry soldier with a mechanized division patch like the 2nd Armored or 3rd. Rangers of course were at N Africa, Scicily, Italy and Northern Europe
You can look up which divisions served where and in what campaigns. It's always nice to see a variety of units depicted.
