Are there runners in airsoft, notifying other positions that the enemy is overrunning them or switching positions? I think that would be cool.

ok... to relay tactical information on a modern radio in ww2 airsoft is cheating. the more airsoft games you play the more used to radio protocal you become. It's best to have one modern radio for each team that can call the ref/land owner/emergency services. The rest of the communication should be done good ole ww2 style, feild phones and wire are cheap, fun, and realistic. and yes, there were feild portable radios in ww2, even the famous Handie talkie used by US troops. We can represent these items, but its obvious, that the easiest thing to do for the time being is send a runner. Especialy with all the young 120 lb players we have. and if he gets hit, send another, etc etc etc -Gordak

I saw at the New Orleans D-Day museum gift show some 3/4 scale replica "Handy talkines" which were branded for the Ultimate Soldier series. I figured they'd be availbla eelsewhere for less money and didn't have room in my luggage anyway so I passed on them. I figured you could fennagle modern GMRS internals and have a functional representation that would look decent. Unfortunately I've never seen the toys again anywhere. Anyone know anything about these?
For Walkie talkies (Man portable abck mounted radios) I built three that look real good as well as a base station set up for a CP type objective etc.

We limit radios to one per squad 12 man US rifleman team 10 man German squad. I am not sure on the German side but 1 radio per squad is about right. I plan on purchasing a couple sets of the field phones in the future though because Like Gordak said it's fun. Handy talkies had a limited range and sop do FRS radios about the same I think maybe a mile or two at best FRS radios say they have long range but 1 miles is about it in the woods. Some real nice GRMS radios have more.

1/3rd scale? really? They looked a bit small but certainly not 1/3rd scale. Obviously that wouldn't do. You see real handy talkies from time to time on ebay but buying enough to equip several squads and a CP seems out of reach for me. I figure you need a minimum of 6 to control a decent sized game.
Absolutely there is an opportunity in the marketplace for good looking shells. that could easily have the FRS guts put in.

I saw on a website I have bookmarked, they are selling headsets to fit over the helmet I think, but it looks pretty dandy. and I think it comes with the radio bag.

I'd bring my wwii field phones if, 1. the second worked consitently 2. It wasn't such a bitch laying like a mile of wire for a 15 minute game 3. They didn't weigh twice as much as the rest of my impression including the gun.
