WWII Fan, I think I can help you out. When I first got into WWII Airsoft, I was told to stay away from Airborne units, and go for Infantry. The reason being that there are already enough Airborne Airsofters and Reenactors, than Infantry. The case during WWII was the opposite. I tryed Infantry for about a month, but I hated the Webgear setups, Uniforms, and I just couldn't find what Unit I wanted to Portray. So I went back to where I started, and went for Airborne. I am not telling you to choose Airborne or Infantry, but I am saying go with something that interests you. My Grandfather was apart of the 101st Airborne during WWII, so I felt that me portraying his Unit would be kind of a contribute to him, and the men of the 101st. Don't just pick any unit because they are apart of a popular series or others tell you. Research is the key.

Why is this in the airsoft and impression market section Nobody can really help you out too much on what to decide to do for an impression... nomatter what they say the choice is still yours to make. Doing some research (don't feel rushed) into the different impression possibilities is where you should start off. Narrow it down until you find something you like. Don't feel rushed into getting an impression going right off the bat, you could end up spending hundreds of dollars on something you don't really want.

Look in your area. See what units are around and that will help you a hell of a lot. Also start out for an early war impression first. People usually go the other way around and start with late war stuff. Which is ok as its cheaper. Though if you ever want an impression thats good for the entire war( if your infantry that is) Start in the early part. It just makes it easier because then you can pick up "late war" items after you have the basic early imp down as late war was a mix of "early" and "later war" items. -Cary

For your first crack, probably go allied infantry. It's simple, the stuff is relitivly easy to find.

Though you have to remember if there are no heer units in his area that does make it a little tough, now granted he could form a unit, but thats going to be tough too. I would suggest just like i said earlier, do your research into you local ww2 airsoft community, and use that to decide what course you take. I wont shun you and I'm sure many others wont either if you go airborne just because that is the only active unit in your area. If you dont mind me asking what general area are you located in? If you are in the midwest ( Illinois, Wisconsin, or Indiana) Hit me up if you want to do 2nd armored. -Cary

I can just see this going on and on... with the same result. To quote what a wise old man quoted from another wise old man... "I'm not even gonna touch this" from now on.

Its like 'what is the best gun' The answer is what do you like. YOu have to go with what aethetically works for you or you;ll just end up selling it to fund some other loadout. Anyone who says 'dont do x there are too many x', is probably someone who does x themselves... you dont see them selling there kit to redress the balance do you (note I am guilty of this having sold my heer kit as it nevr got used buti disocurage folk form doing ss as there are far too many on the uk axis side( Get what you remember as being the uniform that sums up wwii for you. You'll be happy with that. If you still can decide, here's a good acid test. Pick two options to start with. Throw a coin for say 'heads airborne, tails rangers' if you dont like the option it comes down as then you probably shouldnt be considering spending a thousand bucks on it
