I had an idea about how to use high cap magazines in games where only low caps are allowed.
Why would you want to do this you may ask? Because many people can't afford a bunch of low caps and some custom guns only have 1 or 2 magazines.
I like the idea of playing games with limited ammo and limited FPS depending on the type of weapon and I hope this type of play catches on.
Anyway my idea: You can use a high cap but you are only allowed to give it so many winds. One wind would be one movement of the winding wheel with one finger. You are NEVER allowed to wind the magazine while it is still in the gun. You must remove it and then give it the pre-determined number of winds then re-insert it.
The pre-determined number of winds would equal 60-70 rounds or equal to a low cap(number of winds may vary from one gun to another).
I would think the amount of time it would take to remove the magazine, wind it and re insert it would simulate the time it would take to open a pouch and switch magazines.

Great idea! It's certainly not as desireable as a realistic number of low caps and the fumbling with your pouches but it's certainly a step in the right direction. Have you tested how many rounds a full twist creates? (It probably varies from magazine to magazine) I don't own any Hi caps so I'd be curious. Changing mags is such a cool part of the game and dramatically changes the way an element moves and works with one another that it sounds like a great compromise.
We had a low cap only Mil sim game two weekends ago (up in Sultan) with 18 guys most of whom are traditionally hi cap fans and I think we won most of them over.

If only STAR mags came in more variety. THose things were great. Cheap an' they fed.
Good idea for a more authentic game.
