I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!! it is not WW2 but they used almost the same weapons during the war. What is better than comedy during war. Capt. Pierce and Radar O'Reilly are the best. Has anyone else seen it? I know you have.

The series lasted longer than the Korean war itself! I loved the movie too, if not the scene where Major Hoolihan gets exposed in the shower if anything else. Although I must admit I never watched "Trapper John MD"

Pretty funny comment...but I don't know if the Korean War ever "ended", we just pulled out most of our troops. Do keep in mind that US troops still are stationed on the 38th parallel.

Trapper John aired the same time as MASH but it's setting was present day (when the 'present day' was the late 70s) and Trapper John was now a resident surgeon at a big city hospital.

Though set in the Korean war it was an obvious political parody of the Vietnam war. It was filmed in the foothills near Thousand Oaks California and if you drive toward the coast it's just freaky how familiar those foothills are from all the reruns.
Truly one of the best TV shows of all time. Great the way the cast shifted regularly Except Hawkeye, Hotlips and O Reilley but the new faces always kept it fresh. Col Potter was awesome in his role. Very believable. Every veteran remembers a Burns character (unfortunately) and Winchester was certainly believable.

dude 5th dont be a smart A$$ Back off. I actually liked his guest role better. He played an officer that wasnt all there trying to court-martial a soldier........I remember he tried to make the soldier sing a song at his makeshift trial in one of the tents....

sorry to necro, but I thought this was really cool. Today I met Alan Alda from MASH. he was doing a book signing for his new book, "Things I overheard from talking to myself" at the theater I work at. He's a really nice guy, and's still just as hilarious as he was during the show.

Though set in the Korean war it was an obvious political parody of the Vietnam war. It was filmed in the foothills near Thousand Oaks California and if you drive toward the coast it's just freaky how familiar those foothills are from all the reruns. MASH was filmed at what is now called the Malibu State Park, which was donated by Fox to the state a while back. You can easily find it on a good map of the LA area. Other classic films and movies were filmed there, such as "Planet of the Apes." There was also a huge interior camp set at the Fox Studios in Hollywood but I'm not sure which soundstage was used for that. The exterior set now is open fields, and it's tough to see where the set once was as it's now all overgrown. A buddy of mine who was there recently said you could still easily see the hill where the helicopters landed and the road through the set was still there. Otherwise, it was very tough to make out where anything was. He also said there was that "blown up" Jeep still sitting there, rusting away, and a rusted out ambulance, I guess monuments to the longest running war series on TV. There have been several recent fires over the past few years. One such fire went through the set as they were filming the final 2-hour episode, and they had to work that into the script. Also, the "final" episode wasn't really the last one to be filmed. The last one filmed was the one about Hot Lips and her time capsule (named, "As Time Goes By" in episode eleven). It was filmed at the interior sound stage. I found a photo of the Jeep in question here: www.socalmtb.com/socal/trails/photos/15j11x113251.malibu3.htm

Trivia about MASH. Does anyone know why Radar in reality would have been 4F? The answer might surprise you and require yo to pay real close attention to the reruns.
