i just got the m1 and took it apart an locktighted some bolts on, and when i test fired it, it recoils but doustn shoot, there is no gas coming out the ends of the gun? can some one help me

p.s. how do u get the upper reciever off nicely, it had a bit of trouble taking of and putting back on the upper reciever.
