Someone at my local airsoft field has a tanaka mauser rifle for sale I am going to look at tomorow. He doesn't know if it is a G version or not. Is there a way I can visually tell the difference? He bought it new about 6-7 months ago so it could be either.

See if the saftey catch works in all three positions, but the easiest way to tell is open the Bolt and look at the silver nozzle, it should be threaded on the inside. It should also include some brass inserts that screw in there. That is the G- version.
The Pre-G version is not nearly as desirable. -Gordak

Thanks for the info. The guy was a no show so I'll have to wait untill our next game. I think it is pretty likely that it is not a G version or he would probably know it.

I have another question, has the G version the power control system and has the G-version upgrade for the "old" K98 the power control system feature? Have had a lot of different answers and want to set this straight =)

I havent messed with the nozzle, But its set up so you can make the nozzle gas opening smaller, which would reduce the velocity of the bb.
Den trinity sells a kit to make the old version adjustable. But it does not ad the other improvements included on the standard g version (saftey, stock, barrel).
