Hello MG42 owners. (looks pointedly at Gordak) I Am FINLAY going to purchase a Gas system for My MG42. I took it to a PB shop yesterday with the Intention of changing the crappy macro fittings with Quick dis-connect hardware. But first we hooked up a CO2 canister to test fire it for the first time,, And promptly Blew out the Macro seal on the pistol grip. (DOH!! ) And worse yet,, when We tried fitting a New fitting to it, the Diameter of the Quick disconnect fitting was ever so slightly to large! Has any one successfully swapped out hardware on this thing yet? Can any one Write me A list of stuff I need to get this lollipops up and running? What have you done to YOUR mg42s, as far as Fittings and gas systems are concerned? Now that I have the Cash to finish the Upgrade,, ide like to strike while the Iron is hot so to speak. THANKS!

GO hpa, co2 will barely work, you wontbe happy with co2.
Regulator - call 1916-923-9676 ask for a Palmers female stabalizer set up for low pressure HPA/nitro airsoft guns. Tell them you want a 0 to 300 psi gauge. If they dont have the gauge, just get one at any paintball store. they take all credit cards and they ship nice and quick. probalby around 90 bux after shipping.
Next you need macroline and fittings, Get the all silver all metal fitting that are avalible at paintball stores, the ones with the colored plastic dont work. You want it to fit 6mm plastic hose.
Macro line, (small 6mm hose) at painball stores was too hard, I have macro line for sale if you cant get any, its cheap.
SOme say the best macro line is the extreamly flexible japanese type. this type often does not hold well in american connectors.
Macmaster carr sells the best 6mm macro line hose. my favorite is rated for 175 psi, with a 1mm wall.
macmaster carr west of Chicago off 290 also carries the better fittings. they have a web site.
wanna get all the goodies? Get a remote coil hose $35 bux at a painbal store, and a clyndrical quick disconnect (discount paint ball $50) some personal ingenueaty and youll have it all together.
you should spend $150 to $190 on your air tank, hopfully 4500 psi, but 300 is liveable if its nice an big.
The nice thing is once u have this rig, you can use it on all your classic guns, so its only a one time cost.
take your time, and youll get it going at minimal cost. -Gordak

Ok,, Cool.. I was Going to get a 3000PSI system,,Only because I Plan to fill it using Scuba Tanks. I Have no Idea How to get a 4500 PSI system filled around here. Not sure where theres a Compressor in these parts that Can fill one.( I would go 4500psi if I could) but 3000psi Scuba tank Re-fills are easy to find. And I can re-fill My tank between games at an event. If I Can get about 2-3000 rounds out of a 68 or 88 CUI bottle, I will be happy. I don't see myself living long enough to crank out more than 2000 rounds on a Good day anyways. ( ya,, I Suck, even with a machine gun) Question Gordak, What Size Tank will fit in a German Gas mask cannister? ( I Assume you have tried this) I Was thinking of getting an 68 or 88cu tank, and just cutting a hole in the top of the canister for the reg to stick out of. But I'm not sure what will fit. My Canister is post war,, so I Have no problem with cutting a few Holes in it. Is this the cylindrical quick disconnect you are referring to? www.discountpaintball.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_33&products_id=265 I Already tried Co2, We only wanted to see if we put it back together correctly. The CO2 Canister blew out the macro line fitting on the front of the pistol grip. (just that little ring popped out) apparently Co2 runs about 700 PSI. oops. Me and the guy at the local PB shop were un-able to get any other US made fittings to fit. Different metric scale I guess. I'm probably gona have to purchase a replacement from SHOEI unless I can find quick-disconnect hardware that fits to replace it. ( I Hope that one you recommended works)

Gordak is the expert here but a few observations. I doubt a 68 or 88 (you can also get a 114ci tank) will fit in the german gas mask canister. I have never compared the 2 side by side but have held the gasmask canisters and I owned a paintball field and repair shop for 3years, so I have seen a few tanks. If you can get an adjustable tank that will be LP you may forego the extra reg as you are double regulating at that point. However if the reg on the tank malfunctions you have nothing downstream to save your gun. Used to be Arrmageddons and nitro duck tanks you could regulate 0-700psi right on the tank but a back up reg never hurts. paintball fittings are NPT threads....1/8NPT I think. Thats an american fitting your gun is most likely, like you already figured a metric system. You could drill and retap for NPT threads a good PB shop should be able to handle that....The guy you went to before should have known he didn't know anything about what pressure your gun worked at and not touched it or he was not very bright and greedy for the money. Oh and I hate you for owning this gun when I don't

I Have actually seen a picture of Gordak, with his Gas MP40, sitting down doing something with his gear before. In that Picture he had some sort of gas system attached,, with the tank, ( don't know what kind of tank it was) stored in the Gas mask cannister. I am reasonably certain it was a Carbon fiber wrapped HPA system. Just don't know what Size Tank it was. He has apparently abandoned that Method of carrying his Air system,, as every pic Ive seen sense, he has it in some sort of a Satchel instead.
The Post war German gas mask canister is BIG. I Myself was involved in Paint ball for about 14 years before I gave it up. I Owned Both a 68CUI and a 114 CUI systems from Air America. I am Reasonably certain a 68CUI MIGHT fit. I don't know at all if a 88 will, as, if I remember corectly 88s didn't exist when I Gave up on paint ball over 8 years ago. But its Ben so long since I messed with any of it, I would like to know what gordaks done with his system ,, or if anyone else has actually tried to fit a tank in a gas mask canister before. Its Ben so long sense I messed with any of it,, I don't know for sure,, what will or wont fit where as far as air systems go.

Through the playing of many many games, I found rolling the tank up in the zelt-bahn roll to be the BEST way.
When I used it with the gas mask can, the top stuck out, and the can became very awkward and heavy.
THe zelt bahn roll is cussioned, held firm to the body, and can be re-rolled to conseal any tank size. I say with confidence, Roll it up in your zelt! -Gordak
