Very very nice Sam!!
About how long did it take to remove the material with the dremel?
And what brand epoxy did you use?

IT must take about 3 minutes with one of those fiber reinforced cutting wheels, I as actually thinkning of making a cast of the part, and replicating them in pot metal as a one peice dummy sight. This way we would be able to replace them cheaply if the epoxy failed. The epoxy I used was called liquid steel, and its very strong.

The epoxy should be strong that can be used for cars that liquid steel can.

Looks good Sam. I have to put a flip site on my M1 Carbine. I finally hacked off that bayo lug last year. ;D

In looking at the bayonet lug I was trying to figure out how you remove it. I guess hacking it off with a dremel and filing it down is the recommended solution?

take the bayo lug peice off the gun, (youll need to remove the front site). saw it at the spot that goes under the band (the band with the sling swivel on it)
the part that remains should be the peice that holds the upper handgaurd on, with some of the tube that goes under the swivel. put the remaining peice back in. its a must do mod.

It looks so much better WITH OUT the bayo lug. Wish I would have done it sooner. ;D

I recently acquired a older 6mm M1 carbine from Hellmutt (haven't paid him yet ;D) in terrible condition. missing the front sight, rear sight, safety switch and not working. Rather than spending a lot of money on it (those flip sights are flippin expensive!!) and following Gordaks lead of switching to period correct sights, I made both the front and rear sights out of brass. The Flip sight is a very simple shape and because it's home made I just omitted the dove tail on the bottom so no need to dremel the gun and it can be attached with a screw from the inside.
