OK, now from reading your posts it sems to me that there are alot of Thompsons out there on the field. Now I am the pround owner of the Tokyo Marui Thompson but the only problem I have with it is that it is the M1A1 version and not the M1 version.
Now I know that with the M1928 conversion kit I can get the ribbed barrel and the correct upper reciver and sight but what I would like to know it how good is the upgrade, how much is it, how easy is it to instal, does it fix the barrel problem, and is it going to be easy to re-attach the stock hand grip and not use the pistol grip.
The reason I want to do the conversion is because the Marines in 1942, did not have the M1A1 yet and also I would like my Thompson to stand apart from the others.
Thanks

The 28 kit is awesome. It fixes that barrel problem right up, makes it really strong. It's not very hard to install at all, took me an hour or so, but I did a few things wrong so it took a bit longer. You're gonna need to get the wood stock set to go with it, M1A1 furniture is wrong, and best of all , the '28 furniture is wood.
So in all it's a really super kit. Jack~

I concur that the M1928 kit is awesome and solid as a rock. For a Pacific Theater marine impression you want the M1928. (Though less common it also works in Europe) I mounted the regualr front handguard not the pistol grip and it looks great. My kit didn't have the wood. I don't recall where I got it or how much it cost. I think it was from Airsoft Extreme.
I built it on a regular Marui M1A1 whose barrel had broken and my JB weld fix finally gave up on. Incidently a simple way to avoid the problem on a Marui Thompson is a. (Don't use a sling) or b. (Use a sling but be very very careful) or c.(Use a sling but shoulder the weapon butt stock up so there's less pressure on the muzzle area.)
Good luck!

Hey thanks for all the input you guys, much appreciated.
Now I guess I should also ask this question too. When I bought my Thompson and gear to go with it I spent about $800 and compleatly sucked up my cash reserves (got $40 buck to my name now) And I as of now do not actually have the 1942 USMC uniform, (but it is hangin in my local Surplus store waiting for me) So would it be wise to save up for the unifrom or the M1928 conversion kit?
If need be, I can put together a basic Army uniform for about $40 as a temorary outfit until I get the cash for the USMC one if I go the way of the M1928 kit.

I'd say go for the uniform, and wait until the stock barrel gives way, and then order the conversion kit. This way you still get some use out of the stock material. If you're careful, the gun will stay together long enough until you have enough money for the kit. But accidents do happen, and you could be stuck with a gurdless barrel...

Yeah, I agree with Spitfire. Your next purchase should be the USMC uniform, not any upgrades for the gun yet. If you really want to make a good impression on the battlefield, it would be much better to show up in full uniform and gear with a 99% correct Thompson, than showing up with a 100% correct Thompson and a nice pair of blue jeans and a Dickies shirt (ha-ha). GO FOR THE UNIFORM; trust me man; I own the USMC uniform, and it's a beauty. Good luck with your decision.--Ben

Well I guess Ill go with the USMC uniform then, soo...lets see...hmm $40 in my wallet...and only $160 to go, thats managable I guess. Just hope I can get it before the 13th so I can wear it for the airsoft game I have planed starts, (if it is even going to happen?).
