Is there a way to lower how fast your gun fires?

if its an aeg, its all about battery voltage, I like using 6 volt batteries because i can supress targets for a longer duration.

Well, I am talking about aegs. So its battery voltage? Isn't 8.4 volt the normal volatage, so then 6v would lower the RPM drastically?

7.2 volts you will almost not notice the diffrence, 6 volt will slow it down to kinda what a real mp40 did, 650 rpm. -Gordak

Well, I am going to try my luck with making a custom mp40. The famas gearbox came to my liking and I want to try and use it but it fires really fast. So a 6v would change that?

Assuming the gear box and spring are stock a 6 volt might drive it and a 7.2 most certainly will. I use the 7.2 in my AK 47s and Thompsons as I like the slower rates of fire which seem more authentic and as Gordak says will cause a low cap magazine to last a little longer while still putting alot of BBs down range.
Most modern players and "Paintsofters" seem to want to go the other way with rediculous rates of fire which aren't very authentic at all and frankly are really hard on the AEG. Perhaps the fact that I go with an 8.4 or less and generally stock guns is why I have had such great luck with my AEGs durability.
I also take the time to keep them properly cleaned and lubed and don't do long continuos bursts.

A 6 volt might not drive the motor? If I do pull off the custom job then yes everything would be stock, and since I am using TM's first ever gearbox it might be a bit.... different.

One problem that may occur with lower voltage batteries: TM AEG's are designed to run on 8.4v they will run on 7.2v or even 6v at a lower ROF, but the battery may not last long. As you use the gun and the battery discharges its voltage slowly drops, it could reach a point where the voltage is no longer sufficent to pull the spring back and the battery appears dead but may still in fact be mostly full. In other words you could put in a fully charged 6V and right away it works great but you take it out on the field only to find it acts dead after a short time.

low voltage batteries can also blow fuses, but ive used 6 volt alot, they last a long time, I woudlnt use one in cold weather tho.

another way to lower rpm is to use helical gears instead of standard ratio gears. Helical gears are meant for higher fps upgrades, but they will significantly reduce rpm.

Can you give me a link to them?
Would using those gears be better than using different battery voltage? With new gears comes new bushings correct?(you need to buy new bushings)

I actually go with the 8.4 in my M-16 variants as this is pretty spot on with the actual RPM on the real steel variant. For the AK I use a 7.2. I also have a barrel baffle on my AKs so they are louder and deeper in their report which differentiates the forces by sound.
In actual combat in Vietnam one of the ways you could tell what was happening in the bush was by the dominence over time of either the zipper fast pop pop pop of M-16s or the slower louder Thud thud thuds of AKs.
In the excellent book Clay Pigeons of St Lo the author talks of the destinctive sound for German burp guns, MG 43s and Kar 98s vs. Thompsons and Garands and .30 Cals that accomplished the same sensation. As a Bn commander he could tell what was happening by the sound (Especially critical during night engagments.) Unlike most Bn commanders he was smart enough to know that in the middle of a firefight the platoon leaders and company commanders had to fight their elements, not talk to the Bn CO on the radio or field phone so he'd get his initial intel by using his ears not calling them on the field phone.
Reports would come when they were ready to call them in.
