Alrighty guys so my thompson barrel tab between the receiver and barrel broke a while ago, and it's just been holding on with that little hex screw on top, but now that's totally busted too . So what's the best way to fix this? I've tried looking for the barrel fixes online, like the cyrus bridge thingy or whatever, but they didn't respond, and I havent found any other barrel fixes. So my question is would just plain soddering the barrel onto the receiver work? Any outstanding reason why this is a bad idea? I'm open for fixing it other ways too, I just want it fixed. How have you guys fixed it in the past? Your thoughts?

I JB welded the bejeebers out of it when it broke the first time and that worked pretty well and held up for a long time. I got cocky and went back to using a sling with it and eventually it broke again. I finally converted it to an M1928 and it's of course now solid as a rock. I have another virtually new Thompson that I reinforced with the JB weld right from the get go. I haven' used it enough to know how well it will hold up. The thompson metal is a pock metal rather then a full blown steel per se so I don't know if it would conventionally weld or sodder or not.
Good luck with.

well, the 28 kit is probbably the best thing to do, but it costs 400 smakers to do it right.
the cyrus bridge thing is Awesome, im sorry they seem so hard to get intouch with. Im going to have it done to my M1a1 straight out of the box. remmeber youll need to send them your gun, I could get you an alternate email for the cyrius bridge if you like. -Gordak

That'd be great Gordak if you could get me that email address. By the way how much does it cost about (they never actually list the price on the website)?

I'm in the process of milling a reinforcement tab for one of my Thompsons. I'll post some pics if anyone is interested in having it done.

You can not solder or weld to the zinc alloy used to make the reciever, and I don't think glue alone will hold for very long. If you can't get a machined aluminum bridge how about making one yourself out of wood? Maybe use a hard wood dowel (like the size for a closet clothes hanging pole). Drill a hole through the middle for the inner barrel. sand/carve it to size so it's a tight fit in the reciever and barrel then epoxy it in place.
