I've always been curious of where the heck a reenactor finds himself a thompson or any smg in general and tanks. Where the duece do they find em since smg's are illegal!

There is a underground network of people who make legal semi auto and blank firing recievers for re-enacting, Not cheap though. Tanks are easy. I often see them on eBay or on military vehicle collectors sites. Once again, usually not cheap.

We pay a premium price for the hardware. Reenactors are an older crowd of people, who got a lot more cash to spend than the average airsofter.
ALso you need to have a good network of peple who can find the stuff you are looking for. This way, my unit got our Sdkfz (converted OT810).

FYI....SMGs are not illegal, if you have a class 3 weapons license...

Yes...if you have a class III lisence (tax stamp) you may own short barrel rifles, fully automatic weapons, silencers, as well as sawed off shot guns. My reenacting group leader has a 1919a6, m1a1 thompson, M1928 thompson, and 2 Grease guns...all fully automatic and completely legal for him to own. He said about 12 years ago the guy he bought them from had 10 brand new in the box thompsons (5 M1a1, 5 m1928) and 5 brand new grease guns. This was back when they were in te $4,000 to $6,000 range....now you can't touch a Thompson for less than $12,000.

No...you don't need connections. If your state is class III friendly there should be gun shops that carry them...you'll usually see them at gunshows as well. In facts...the SARs gunshow pretty much only has class III items....well at least the one here in AZ every December. The thompson you selected is a semi-auto only rifle that is completely legal. If you want it to be realistic you'll need to replace the barrel with the short barrel....which will require a class III lisence....which is something you'll need to talk to your local BATF agents about.

Getting a class III lisence is about $200, lots of paper work, and about 3 months to a year of waiting. You also must bes 21 or older. There should be an ATF office in your local area...you should go down there...they have all of the forms that need to be filled out as well as more information than I can give you. Cheers Thomas
