I played airsoft yesterday and a few people had the new TM mp7A1 aeg's, I was quite impressed with their performance and it got me thinking. The gearbox in the MP7A1 is tiny, realy tiny. I'm quite sure it could fit in a M1 carbine (or m1a1). But.... It shoots at about 250 fps with .20 ammo and no upgrade (or replacment) parts are available for it yet.
Marushin M1 carbine.... $250 TM MP7a1...$210
plus shipping etc probably $500-600 for a m1 carbine semi-auto aeg that shoots 250 fps.
Is it worth the money and effort?

i think it would be worth it, but the mags would be a pain.

I also say it would be worth it, if for no reason other than you would have the first aeg carbine. But, ditto to Gordak, mags would be a pain in the arse...

You know my feelings about it. I'd certainly fund it if you want to do one! The toes up carbine you fixed would have been a good candidate as a donor gun. I also have a bunch of carbine magazines (real steel) I suppose you'd put the TM MP mags inside as with the greaser?

Yes, I was thinking of putting some type of TM mag inside a real carbine mag. Maybe have to use a TM pistol mag. I seem to have moved further away from doing the US stuff so that keeps me from doing this project, I really want to concentrate on German and British. There are already plenty of Yanks But if you (2nd bat) want to buy the stuff I'm sure we can work out a deal.( I'm still interested in our other deal if you ever want to work that one out ;D.) My concern was that you would be taking a gun (the marushin carbine) that works pretty good as a gas gun and making it not as powerful. Also since marushin is releasing a semi-auto version soon....... Schmitty

I guess the possibility that upgrades will probably be available eventually for the MP7a1 means you could probably end up with a carbine in the 270- 290 fps range which given that it's a carbine is in my view acceptable. As you know even when they go to semi auto with the marushin carbine it will still be gas. (Pluses and minuses with that as you know) Like you I lean toward AEGs for their consistency and ease of operation. I'll look for another toes up carbine.

what would really turn heads would be an Italian Carcano airsoft gun. That would be the coolest conversion ever! (in my opinion)

Schmitty,
I will try to buy a non functioning carbine to use as a donor. Last one was $60.00 so in better shape could probably be bought for under $100.00. The magazine (if functioning) could find its way to my gas carbine as an additional spare and then I'll buy a MP 7. Eventually upgrades will no doubt be available. With a slightly longer barrel it might shoot a bit harder also? 250 is a bit weak for outdoor skirmishing but not by much for a carbine sized weapon. I've heard good things about the build quality on the Mp7 too bad you can't just buy the guts. True of all of them isn't it?
