Hello All, Well, I've been contimplating spending a whole lotta' time on the configuring of a World War 1 Heavy Machine Gun, be it Allied or Central Powers style; it doesn't matter to me, really. I just want to be able to do it right, sit back, and be proud of my achievment. I guess my question to you all would be: "If you were to start one of these projects, what gun would you first consider altering?" I really do feel that having all of your oppinions on this issue would be a fantastic help. I really do appreciate any and all advice concerning this issue. Thanks a bunch fellas! PS: Please don't recommend me to visit the WW1 Airsoft forum.

you'd probably be looking for some species of Maxim or Vickers MG.... here's a page for all the ones used in WW1...from there you ought to be able to find several that interest you and lok up further info... www.firstworldwar.com/weaponry/machineguns.htmi want to say that i've seen a Vickers in pics of a WW2 airsoft game that had been posted here.don't know if it's an airsoft version though.

Yes that was me with the Vickers although mine is a WWII dated model. I would say a Maxim is the obvious WWI choice. The Russian ones are easy to find and not too expensive. The Vickers was the easiest airsoft conversion I have done because being water cooled means you get tons of space in the water jacket.

Hey Fellas, Scoping out some of your ideas, I have noticed that the guns do, in fact, seem pretty easy, especially in their original design. Thanks for the oppinions. As for as the "airsoft" portion itself, have you guys thought up any existing piece that you feel would easily be adapted to the "Vickers" or "Maxim"? For instance, I did notice a gentleman in one of the previous forums that decided on purchasing an airsoft AK47, and converted it to a STG44. He did a fantastic job. I guess seeing what he did acomplish, made me realize how ......possible........it might be to really produce something nice, and with a little attention paid to details, a real, darn near era-appropriate piece.

Which WWI Heavy MG? Choices choices....I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Browning Model of 1917 or the Maschinengewehr 08. I'd probably go with the Browning as you can get more airsoft mileage out of it because it was used even in Vietnam. What I'd really like to see is an airsoft Lewis Gun. I found a manual for the Lewis Gun online, in case anybody needs it.

the M1917 Browning would be a good choise ..... if one was only doing US AEF from 1918 on.that was when the M1917 became avialable in any sizable amounts to US forces.with a basic Maxim type reciever set-up and some cosmetic changes, (i.e. mounts, differing water jackets and barrels, and different grip types),you could do several sides and it would allow a bit of variablity in what you portray. as for the lewis gun....it's a popular item for star wars folks to build as a heavy blaster. home.comcast.net/~wizardofflight/LewisGundraft.gifmost of the plans for it would cover the basic lewis gun and then you could just stuff it with airsoft internals.it would be a gun that would have been used both in WW1 ,during the inter-war years, and into the beginings of ww2.they were used most noticably on the vehicles of the British Long Range Desert Group blindkat.hegewisch.net/lrdg/mgs.html
