I know the outta of the box top MP 40 is not so good, but I have heard of the upgrades for it. What are they? and are they easy to do?

PGC makes a normal AEG piston style mechbox for it you will also need gears shims and a motor I believe. I know that some stuff is not included with the mech box. People have put it at around 600-800 total for the gun with good internals. Schmitty out there in the Pacific NW has done one I think.

Don't you use the existing TOP motor with the PGC internals?

It sucks that so few quality, functional WW2 AEGs are available at an affordable price. Low volume results in high prices it's as simple as that. Thank God Marui built the Thompson. I only wish it had been a bigger hit amongst the masses. The fact that it wasn't a big hit is the reason no other volume manufacturer has taken on WW2 weaponry.

And you wonder why I haven't taken the plunge yet...I haven't bought the required lube yet I'd take it soon. They will run out then you'll be forced to make your own or go the ebay route. I doubt any other company will take the plunge after the TOP fiasco. Once I tweaked mine and got it to work it's not bad. It is definitelt NOT a gun for a beginner.

no, Youll need an ak motor for the pgc -Gordak Hello, I am new to this board and this is my first post for that matter, My name is Dave and i live in Northwest Montana. I have a Top Mp40 and am 100 percent certain that I am going to do the upgrade. My first question is which AK motor do You use, Marui? Top? CSI? Which gears are used and where do You get them? Where do You get the piston to replace the bellows and who manufactures it? I am serious about doing these upgrades but don't know what parts to use besides the PGC kit. My knowledge stops there. Can anyone help by telling me which gears to buy, which AK motor, Which barrel if it needs it, Which gears and where to get them. I hope this is not too much to ask from a first time poster. I have scoured the web and only get tiny bits of info here and there and there must be someone who knows the complete list of parts that will be needed for the conversion and who manufactures them. PLEASE tell me if You know. I thought I was getting a good deal on My MP40 for $300 with extra mags and chargers, batteries and magazines etc but it looks like I bought a pig in a poke after reading all this and rather than have a "paperweight" as I hear You refer to it as I would like to get it working well. It does shoot now but I really would like to use this as a serious airsoft weapon. I hve a TM M1A1 that I replaced all the plastic with real WWII surplus wood and it turned out great, The surplus wood has actual wear from wartime use and gives it a look that is indescribably realistic. I would like to get all available info on the TOP upgrade though as I plan on buying the m100 kit this week. I don't know who manufactures the gears or what sizes etc and other details and hope someone can help. Thanks Dave
