I got this Tanaka Kar 98K 4 years ago, for $550 (the price when they had just been released) A pretty expensive gun, yes, but nothing compared to what was to come…
Soon after, News that Tanaka was taking steps to improve the barrel and accuracy caused me to order a custom barrel, and spring set, which turned the gun into a VERY powerful, Very accurate airsoft gun. Later the G-version came out and it was my new preference for airsoft games. My old version Kar98 ended up on the back shelf, but not forgotten, ...more like awaiting my evil plan! (to upgrade it into the ultimate Kar 98 sniper rifle.)
The world of Germans sniper rifles is an in depth and excruciatingly expensive hobby. I learned very quickly that though, all original sniper components cost tons of money, and were very hard to find... the Rolls Royce/ most desirable, ULTIMATE Uber-Haxzooor was the Turret mounted ZF 39. The scope set up alone is $2500 on the market, and then you need a rifle worthy of the mount. With its massive robust, and fantastically over-engineered construction, the turret mount is the text book example German sniper rifle. Just hearing the mount click into place is an awesome experience.
I looked for alternatives but like many collectors, just could not live without the turret mount. . SO the gun and my dreams of turret mounted joy sat idle for years…
Not much new in the way of WW2 airsoft has been released lately, so I actually was getting an irresistable itch to get another WW2 gun.
Always keeping an eye out for deals, I very recently, finally bit the bullet and managed to build my dream kar98k!
Most people think I’m crazy, $1400 total for the rifle I now post here, but the truth is I was VERY LUCKY, it could have cost a hell of a lot more. It has an Original WW2 nazi scope, and hand made reproduction turret mounts from Austria, all attached to a rifle that cost me about $675 before I even thought of the scope and mount! This is the LEAST your going to pay for a Turret mount and scope! again I was lucky.
well here it is,
Me checking out the optics, and below a comparison to a (Real steel) Springfield.
I LOVE THIS GUN!!!!!
