well i heard of ppl putting black tape around it, but that was for events and they would be able to take it off for legal reasons, i would go to your hardware store, and ask them for a gun metal type paint, and make sure it can stick to plastic, or it will rub or chip off.

ha sounds easy enough. i own a hardware store so getting the paint wont be too hard. but i'd rather take it off completely and then put it on at skirmishes ect.. also it sticks out of the gun about a half inch and just isnt esthetically pleasing so removing it would seem to work out better.

i would just go with the tape, it looks like applesauce when you rush it, but if you take your time around it, and make it nice and smooth it should be fine, are you sure it isnt orange paint over it, because you can use nailpolish remover on it, or a paint thinner, but if its all plastic orange, go with tape or paint, or like maybe duplacate the orange tip, since you own a hardware store, and then like pop off the orange for your black tip

Since this is the WE, it has a orange plastic extention. To get this extention off, I just took some pliers and took it out.
First I crushed the plastic just a little to loosen it, and the thing came right out in one peice. It is the easiest orange tip to remove by far.

Why would you take the tip off? Now it looks like a real gun and for legal reasons the orange tip is supposted to stay on.

When you take a picture during an event and you see the orange tip it just totally takes away from the visuall impact. And making it look like a reall gun is kinda why we take them off, but for legal reasons you are right they should stay on.

The only legal reason (in most states) for orange tips is to comply with import regulations for replica guns. Technically airsoft guns aren't replica according to the actual statute as they fire a projectile (but that's an argument for another time.) Unless it's a statute unique to a particular jurisdiction (State county or city) orange tips remaining on the guns are not a legal requirement.
Keeping them on has it's advantages from a safety perspective although if you're brandishing it in public with or without an orange tip you're violating the law (in most states) The most prudent and safest thing to do is play in an authourized area. Be concious of any intruders to the area and always carry your guns in a gun case when coming and going to an event.
I've removed the orange on some guns with paint thinner or nail polish remover and I've painted over the tips on others. With still others I've unscrewed the tip and replaced it with something better looking. Some guns even come with an orange tip on to comply with the regualtions and have the parkerized tip in the box waiting to be put on. (Marui M-14s)
Many retailers won't perform warranty work or do good will repairs to a gun that has the orange tip removed. (Smart retail move since they know that most players remove it almost immediately) So that's something to consider as well. The key thing to remember is that an orange tip is not going to prevent an officer from identifying you as a threat. If you have an airsoft weapon with or without the tip you provide the perecption of danger and are quite likely to be shot by an official who either feels threatened or fears for the safety of others.

Taking the tip off, and showing it off in public is illegal. A neighbor might scared and call the Blue-and-White on you. They might be able to fine you. I know taking the tips off in NJ is illegal. I advise you to talk with your Police Dept. just to see what the law is. ~Nick~

I kinda do the opposite. I remove the orange tip for home use but if I put it in the car to take it somewhere (transport), I put a small amount of orange electrical tape on the tip (and put it in a gun case). Generally, if Im not using it in my basement or backyard, I have a small bit of orange electrical tape on the tip.
Your state law might be different, but I read it that you need an orange tip to sell or transport.

I treat my airsoft guns just like I do my real steel ones. the neighbors will NEVER see them out in my yard or in public. The orange tips on my guns have never stayed on a minute longer than it took to get them removed as soon as I brought the gun home. In my area, airsoft guns are classed the same as BB guns. They are legal to own and posess, but illegal to shoot in city limits. Period. Not even in your own yard. The orange tips aren't even mentioned in the ordnance related to them. Our organization plays a more hardcore version of mil-sim airsoft than a lot of folks, and that orange tip is visible for a long ways when viewed with teleoptics. The newbs learn very quickly to ditch them before trying to survive another game day.

I got my Thompson used and it didn't come with a tip but I always could paint it then put black tape over it for a pic or something.

In illinios, last i heard in most parts, it is starting to vary city by city, it is only required for transportation, once on a designated airsoft ground, or on your home address it is completley legal. My DE m14, came with a little 1/4 inch line of yellow around the tip, yet after using it on the field twice it has almost all chipped away..... lol... some also come with a orange plastic cover. -Cary.

And your post is about 1 month late. Don't Bring up old topics and add info that has been stated. I think above we were talking about the law and safety up there somewhere. And also, if you play next to a highway, or out in the public with airsoft guns, you kind of deserve to get shot.

So, let's just say you are going to make a commercial, film, etc. Now you have a legal need and right to remove that orange scourge: 1. Paint over plastic. Dipped application. This is some kind of slick polymer that will not let paint "wet" the surface. Paint continually beads up, ink will not dry on it. A nice new stanley blade and lots of patience, scrape scrape scrape. Beadblast if ya have em.
2. Paint over metal. Dipped application, same shiny orange ick, sometimes over a white base, Marui thompson for example. Wrap end with paper towels, rubberband tightly in place. Slip a baggie over this, pour in nail polish remover or acetone. Close bag, squeeze out air, close with another rubber band. Leave saturated for 15 minutes. Open up and scratch softened paint away, repeat as needed.
3. Sickening orange molded part, sleeve, etc. Some unscrew, some just about fall off (well D90). Krylon and Rustoleum make "paint for plastic" -it works.
Shrink wrap works very nicely, but butterfinger types will risk the gun's finish if they don't go slow and methodical with the heat.
Get a gun bag and use it. Those who are interested will ask to see what's inside, those who don't, will likely not know you're carrying a gun or a guitar. This is good. Look up airsoft laws, in particular for where you live. don't rely on general information. Have common sense, keep any and all guns hidden from general view. A gun is a gun to the general public. Pull the magazines when transporting, and never, ever, point or fire an airsoft out of a vehicle. In short, treat it like a real gun. Finger alongside the receiver, drop into place only when on target. Practice this, make a point of making that off-duty finger visible to potential targets. Onlookers will know when you intend to hold fire. If you can be viewed by anyone you cannot easily explain the situation to, keep things under wraps.
