it isnt an airsoft gun, but a prop gun. Does anyone know like how well the crushmanpaintball.com prop BAR is? I like the way it looks and i could work on it so it looks pretty close to looking realistic. My question is, does it look all rounded like in the picture, or can if be like more sharp like the real BAR, and wat does (open sight) and (hooded sight) mean? Lastly could i like make this into a airsoft gun, im not sure how it would work because in it is a PVC pipe and foam. heres the link: www.cushmanpaintball.com/replicaBAR.htmlthanks again, PFC 101steasykid

you will probally be unhappy with the cushman BAR. They are vacum molded from the real things but there is a lack of detail.

oh, well my friend mango had one in the last event he went to, and he said it was a mold, im not sure wat kind, he had it slung over his shoulder in one picture, and he carried schmitty m1919a6, and a CA870. If Schmitty, or Mango can tell me wat kind it was it would be nice
and also what does open and hooded sight mean?

Some BARS had a "Hood" over the front site and some didn't . The BAR in many of my pictures is a solid RESIN replica. It looks and feels pretty good and as a resin model it's well made. I think it was $250.00 or somewhere in that neighborhood. It would be impossible to convert into an airsoft gun as it has rebar molded inside for weight and strength. I did buy it for posing and to guide my eventual hope to build an airsoft AEG BAR. I will most likely use a M-14 mech box which I'm getting pretty familiar with. With the machining and design work and limited market it probably won't be cheap but it'll be well below the current and pending BAR offerings. Mine will be real steel and real wood as in limited numbers it'll frankly be less expensive to do so.
A cautionary headsup to anyone interested, It's a huge gun. very long and large. I'm sure the reason manufacturers have shied away from it as a gun to build is the typical airsofter would not find it practical or appealing in a conventional skirmish. I also fear that there may be issues with the need for such a rediculously long barrel.

I think to make the BAR a more vialble option the BAR would have to me 8mm, otherwise why bother? Other than the novelty.

My first thought to your casual remark is "Knock yourself out and let us all know when you've got that baby built!" After I calmed down a bit I realized I appreciate your mindset. Frankly it's going to be tough enough getting a BAR built and there is much more available base mechanicals to go on with 6mm. I agree that a long and awkward gun should be more powerful and intimidating.
One approach to take, so the BAR gunners have a distinctive role and advantage. Sub machine guns have to be stock and can only fire using low cap magazines. Long main battle rifles can be upgraded but must be fired semi auto only. The BAR can be both upgraded and fire fully automatic provided the gunner uses low cap magazines only. Machine guns have to be viable machine gun designs (.30 Cals or MG 43s etc.) They must be fired form bipod or tripod mounts and must have a crew of two. They are allowed to be upgraded, can fire fully automatic and are allowed box magazines. hence they produce power and sustained high rates of fire.
At the recent Gothic Line game in the NW we strove towrad these goals and came close to achieving them. We haven't incorporated the power upgrade rules consistently yet but otherwise we followed the design. It worked great. It promoted team work and tactical planning and execution during the game phases and gave all the participants a real appreciation for the importants of your automatic weapons and especially the machine guns.
