hello again, i'm getting my impression soon (326th engineers, 101st) and i'm deciding on which kit to get which one of these is better?
the one from at the front-
M-1C Paratrooper Helmet, reproduction (postwar shell) M1943 Paratrooper Uniform Set, (Jacket and trouser) Jump Boots Helmet net, (reproduction) Unit Patch, machine-embroidered US trouser belt M1923 Cartridge Belt or pistol belt and 3 rigger pouches Parachute First Aid Packet M1936 Suspenders (reproduction) First Aid Pouch Mussette Bag (reproduction) T-Handle Shovel with cover (reproduction) M1910 Canteen cover (reproduction) price-$649.99
the one from what price glory-
M43 jacket M43 para trousers w/canvas pockets and leg ties enlisted or officer web waist belt 1 pr socks M43 Combat Boots (Double Buckle Boots) or Boots, Parachutist (Jump Boots) sleeve patch, choice of 82nd Div OR 101st Div (white or red tongue) Jeep cap Camouflage parachute scarf Cartridge belt OR Pistol belt w/ 1 Rigger pouch M36 suspenders Musette bag M43 E-tool cover Canteen cover 1st Aid pouch w/ Carlisle bandage Wool Scarf
TL-122B Flashlight Jump gloves Armband flag M2 knife w/ lanyard Wrist compass Para rope Felt shoulder pads M3 knife & M6 scabbard Luminous disc Hawkins Mine Gammon Bomb Leg Strap
price-$710 (this one is actually two packages combined, a basic package and an accessory package, the space inbetween them seperates them, the basic pakage is $450)
or third option, combine differnt packages example, baynet inc web gear package, what price glory accessory package and so on. except that seems more expensive
so what would be the wisest to go with?, i might go with the at the front package since it includes a helmet

Yes go with At the Front. I have some stuff from What Price Glory, and most of it is crap. The musette bag is way off, and Jerry's suspenders have this weird cheap paint on the hardware that just chips off. I've seen At the Front's M43 jacket, and at first I thought it was an original. Very well made. I had a gas mask bag from bayonet inc too that was pretty good, despite the bad rap the company seems to get a lot. Bottom line you get what you pay for, and although ATF may be more expensive, the quality is what counts.

Yea, I agree. But, I still like some of the addtions in the second What Price is Glory kit. Oh well, quality is what counts, as Go4Broke said.

ok, i'm going to go with the package from ATF, but later on would getting acessories from what price glory? they have alot of neat things in the accesory package, or would those things be very low quality as well?
oh and would going with M42s or M43s be better? i've hear that M43s are more comfortable, the group i'm joining doesn't have a particular one that they wear unless its a specified event? any thoughts on which one is more durable?

M42s would work for all periods, maybe passable for market garden events. I have m43s and they are very comfortable.
ps: I think original field gear is the way to go, imo.

m42s are fine up to market garden, (september 1944) then you should go m43.
My simple rule is this, Summer games = M42, winter games = M43

crap, i just made a big noob mistake..... and i was remided by the group leader that i cannot carry a weapon.......since i'm under 18.......so i asked if i could be a medic, and that if i could carry a blank firning weapon only (probably a 1911) waiting for his reply, but what alterations would i have to make to do a medic impression? EDIT- i just got word back from the group leader he said that the roles with out a weapon would be, medics, photographers, runners, machine gun assistants. i'm liking gunners assistant best

I think you can pretty much keep everything the same. Just remember to get the pistol belt instead of the cartridge belt. ATF has a Medic gear set that has the medic yoke, 2 bags, and inserts for $150. All you'd need then would be a medic brassard, and some spiffy little medical supplies and you'd be good to go. I think the little accessory stuff from WPG will be fine too. I think that original gear's good to start out with, because it's generally cheaper, and some of it actually hold up a lot better than modern repros (they don't make 'em like they used to ) but right now I'm trying to phase out all my original stuff for repro's and save it for my collection and for public displays and stuff. No sense in ruining a piece of history in the field. Personally if I were doing 101st I'd go with the M43's as the 101st only wore the M42's stateside and in Overlord; by Market Garden and onward they were pretty much effectively phased out of field use, although some troopers retained them for goin' out on the town (and Capt. Speirs who still had his in the Bulge). Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think the M43's are made from a little thicker cotton material than the M42's, too. Silencer, M42's were what the 82nd wore throughout the Italian Campaign, so you'd be fine with those. PS Thanks guy! Photoshop + Spring Break + Boredom = awesome forum sigs ;D . Oh ya...I'm still bored...so if anyone wants me to make them a sig PM me.

M-42s would be appropriate 82nd airborne for North Africa, Scicily, Normandy and really all through the war although by Market Garden 90% of the folks actively wore the M-43s. Let's see, lug ammo cans or a heavy tripod. I think I'd go as a runner. That way you'd be with the HQ element alot and would know what was going on most of the time.

Some of the 504th wore their M42s into Market Garden. Then they finally got M43s a little later. Some guys still kept theirs though. Just so y'all know.

m43s are
A hell of alot stronger, warmer water proof (or very water resistant) practical button closure (zippers suck in combat) green color, (better cammo than khaki) Better collar Better cuffs dont need to be reinforced attachable hood Pants are cut with alot more freedom pant ankles have a closure theres probably more resons there better too,
these are the reasons we used this basic style field jacket from 1943 to 1993 (gortex parka arrives)

Ok. So then what would you guys suggest, a m42 or a m43. If the m43 is apparently much better should I just get that and then buy a m42 when I have money to spare? ps Didn't mean to steal your thread gunslinger

M-43 is a more affordable way to go and in my opinion the best starting impression for US.

Agreed, M43's are more versatile too. If you decide not to do airborne - voila you also have an infantry uniform!
