So I was wondering... Do you lubricate the "O" ring in the main piston of the AEG gearbox (The one that travels back and forth during firing) or leave it dry? If lubricaticating, what would you suggest? Is there a good cheap grease that folks are using that is readily available and won't hurt the parts?

Hmmm, 20 views to date and no answers. I guess it wasn't the worst question then. Still waiting for the definitive answer. If I were more mechanically inclined, I'd know this but alas, it is a mystery. One part of me says the O-ring is self lubricating against the plastic cylinder and another part says that some lubrication would create a more air tight seal for better umphh!. I seem to remember oiling the bb-guns I've owned but I don't want to screw up the o-rings if they don't need lube. Help!!!

I just use your standard "paintball marker" oil on my guns.

yeah same here, i would oil it, i mean i really never got into the technicals of airsoft guns, just quick strips of my m14, but i did use to repair alot of paintball guns, and they have 3 O rings in them, sooo i would say oil it with a standard paintball marker oil, like zak said, anything left dry will probably crack. A little oil never hurt anything.

Yes and no 101st! Like your paintball gun or a quality BB gun be sure to use pure silicon oil. Not WD 40 or any lubricant with detergent or corrosives in it. WD-40 will eat you internals and destroy them in retty short order. It is rated a corrosive not a lubricant in aviation circles incidently.

Is Standard Gun oil ok to lube your guns with? Schutze NO! Real guns are steel, gun oil eats plastic! Gun oil bad! Stick to silicon!

Use white lithium grease or silicon lube. I mainly use the grease on the gears and piston itself but the piston head with the o-ring can also use the grease sparingly.

Your Tanaka has a lot of steel parts but it's the seals for the gas reservoirs, o rings and contact points taht are damaged by real gun oil. Real guns don't have to worry about such things.

2nd Bat is rite.
I spray silicone onto a rag and wipe down the steel areas of the gun. I do it after it rains, or when the gun gets wet.
Internaly on the gears, bushings or bearings. I use Mobil-One hi-viscosity bearing grease, OR White Lithium OR Silicone grease. I apply grease to the gear axles & shims then apply a thin-thin layer of grease on the face of the spur gear only. No grease on any of the gear teeth.
On the piston head o-ring, piston side rails, and the spring itself (tiny amount). I use Silicone grease, or Radio Shack "Lube Gel". You can use white lithium but I don't, I just always used Silicone grease.
All lubricants can be purchased at local hardware stores.
Make sure the silicone spray you buy contains NO: Petro Distillates, or anything with the word "petro" in it, or Acetone. (Heptane, Propane are fine they are propellants)
Silicone grease can be purchased at auto stores: It's called Di-Electric Silicone grease. $8-$10 a tube.
Radio Shack Assembly Lube Gel can be found at Radio Shack near the soldering irons.
