Hey everybody, I am new here, and to this hobby. I Was looking at airsoft Kar98s and Moisan Nagants..... and they are expensive as hell! I know that several of you guys have created your own using the real deal..... since I can find real Kars for $100 and Nagants for $70 I was wondering if any of you guys have any actual PLANS or instructions for converting them. Schmittys Kar98K was amazing, and I would love for it to be like his..... but ANY instructions for doing this is fine.

I believe they took the real kar98k stocks and put a cheaper airsoft rifle internals into them. Welcome aboard man!

Its a bad idea. A stock sniper rifle sucks. Cheap or high end, it still needs upgrades (unless its a older Tanaka). Just save your money and get a Tanaka.

I am not that concerned with how great the finished rifle is, I am more concerned with price, and to be able to make something awesome! Plus I dont like the way the Tanaka operates, I want an electric version that fires without the stupis fake bullets. As I said something like Schmitty's would be perfect, but anything would be good.

ally? I thought it said he had an AEG box in there..... is it spring? That works too......considering that they are bolt action rifles..... I am very up to working with anything except gas.

Schmittys is spring action but he used an AEG piston and designed the inner working pretty much completely. (The man is a God!) As mentioned mine is an existing springer rifle (MP001 Marui VSR knock off) that is fitted into the stock and hardware from a real gun. Certainly a doable project for just about anyone. If you go to the bolt action rifle thread it should be fairly obvious how to do the project. If it still appears daunting my recommendation is don't attempt it. I built mine to be as simple a project as possible. A dremel and a tape measure and about 12 hours of time and you're pretty much there. The base guns are cheap maybe $75.00 delivered from Gunner airsoft. Spare magazines are 5.00. They shoot at just under 400 FPS without any mods at all.

PS I agree with you about gas. It's a pain in my opinion and I hate them. (Inconsistent and unreliable) The Tanaka however is excellent. (When it works)

I agree, gas is a pain, and it is just MORE money to put into your gun. I think Schmittys Moisan is AMAZING, and I think I sorta get how to do it, but not enough to do that by myself yet. I think the only real difficulty to this would be making the feeder work, I mean, where do I find an airsoft magazine that looks like a Nagant mag? One that would fit a reasonably priced springer and doesnt use those stupid fake cartridges? A Mauser would be a little easier because it would just use a tube or something..... but you would have to find a way to get the bolt of the rifle to meet up with the springer guts...... I'll figure it out..... If anybody who has made a Garand, Mauser, or a Moisan airsoft could send me pics of their internals and layout in the rifle, I would be much obliged. Calvin

I think you really need to go through the rather extensive threads on making bolt action rifles. There is one on Springfields and one on bolt action rifles and probably one or two more. Also you might want to do a little research on the rifles themselves. Understand that this is not meant as a cheap shot, but Moison-Nagants or K98s did not use magazines. They used stripper clips. 2nd Bat did a supurb Springfield and I'm hoping to finish one soon. Read the threads, you'll learn a lot.

Schmittys recent effort was a Kar 98 not a Mosin Nagant. His loaded through the bullet reservoir with the bolt pulled back. (Very cool) Mine just feed with the traditional lower mounted magazines painted to blend into the stock. Much much easier approach then schmittys very clever but very involved design.

I still find myself drooling ay Schmitty's kar98. It is simply AMAZING!!! He wonders why we all hate him. 2nd Bats conversion is the road I am going to take. An airsoft kar98 that shoots at 400fps? I'll take one, I mean make one. Being the owner of several gass guns, I have become quite sick of them. The upkeep, the rising price of 134a gas, AEG's & springers are the way to go.

If you feel the need for additional velocity by adding a Dees custom barrel ($30.00 or so) you'll add another 10% to your FPS. It's an easy adaptaion since you've got the gun taken down anyway and have to cut away the fat outer barrel. Just be sure to use high quality BBs afterwards. (Not a bad idea anyway!)
