So, i was looking at one of my gun books, and was just drooling over the m1a1 carbine. So then i got the bright idea.. hey... maybe.. i can make this work..... hmmm so i thought.. for the m1a1 you can buy the stock. and the other parts. for the gun ( a total there would prob be around 150-200) then you can get the gearbox( not sure which one would work best im looking at maybe a ver3 for m1a1[Pistol grip would hold the motor] then a version 6 like the m14 for the m1 carbine) A feed system wouldnt be too hard. im thinking a brass tube in a real carbine clip that has a spring and all those workings in it. Then to load it you push down a little lever which runs the length of the tube compressing the spring, put it in the gun, then let the spring return (unlocked) position [this is all confusing explaining it, but it makes sense in my head lmao] For a battery, im thinking a mini battery under the upper handguard. Im sure the entire project could be done for under 400 dollars. Thats just my idea. If i was able to get the parts, i could try it. But i seem to be lacking green paper -Cary

You could probably hollow out the fore stock enough to put a 6 volt battery under the barrel.
The height of the receiver is roughly 1-1/2", a width of 1" inch, and a length of 6" total. I seriously doubt you could fit an M14 gearbox in there, you would literally have to shrink down everything, the cylinder itself would have to be shrunk down to a smaller diameter, and the gears may even have to be shrunk, and I have no idea how you'd fit a motor in there.
You would probably have to design a new gearbox to fit into the Carbine, I may try modelling one design later tonight.
One idea would be to reverse the Motor position and place it in the front of the gearbox, the gears would then 'push' the cylinder instead of 'pulling' it back, this would reduce the number of batteries you could hold, but it'd allow for an M1A1 Carbine, you can always modify it for a sling battery or a battery strapped to the wire stock if power becomes an issue.

Good luck M-14 Dreaming is so joyous isn't it? Not to pour water on your fire but the space limitations are very severe with an M1 carbine. Even the tiny MP7 aeg is too big to work. Perhaps there is a way to figure it out and I truly hope there is as I'd be a big fan of a carbine AEG (in either variant). Thus far I don't see it as plausible but I hope I'm wrong.
Schmitty attemted it and had no luck configuring it. That alone should tell us something!

Doing these things is expensive and time consuming and that's even if you never screw anything up which sadly is commonplace. Ideas rarely materialize as planned.

Why ruin a perfectly good gun!!! Just buy the Marushin! Someone should try to covert the M2 carbine to take the old Marushin Mags.

I know it would have terrible range, most likely, but instead of an mp7 gearbox, how bout one of those little mauri AEP gearbox? (if I may call it that.)

how would you get the gearbox close enough to the hop unit?? ... would you just put it in the reciever and customize it a bit because it's designed to go in a hand grip right? and the distance between the grip and the mag/magwell is too large to join together. If im wrong how would you do it ha ha

well it was a good idea ... i was going to do that at one point but i pusponed the construction of the AEG M1A1 becuse i didnt know how i could do it and ive been thinking ever since ... i thought you could get a parts kit maybe becuase you dont have to put hte real internals in saving space .. for a gearbox maybe and but if you could change the head of the AEP gearbox it may work if you lay it in the reciever becuase i have seen from photos that there is a head that redirects the air at an angle so that it goes round towards the bb ..... if you could change it so that the air could come straight out forward you could lay the gearbox in the reciever with loads of space and get it near enough to a hop unit or something
Yes - No ??

If somebody can create an M1 that works, it can also be adapted to production. A magical thing happens when you do a cost-reduction analysis on a "custom" item. Witness the low-price, high-quality guns appearing hourly. Take that Garand, target a sub $250 price tag, and watch the dough roll in. I won't say overseas production. ah, crap, I said it.
Now the stumbling block here is the low price of decent originals. And the antique and curio laws that allow easy aqquisition of these. But not everybody is a Schmitty.
This would be a good canidate for a "factory-beating" weapon, since a "perfect" Garand doesn't exist outside of labors of love. Quality could be intentionally low, fer cryin' out loud. Real M1's were slapped together.
On a one-off, I'd go with Green gas instead of electric. CO2 would be even easier to "package" inside the gun.
Cary, this project would be HELPED by the lack of funds. Cash stifles creativity (seen Ice Age2?). When you are able to throw money at a problem, you learn very little.

Ya, well this weekend i went to the gun range w/ my grandpa, and I tooled around with his Underwood Carbine. I realized some big problems. The reciever is no wider then the round is wide ( about an inch and a half wide) The sock, is not tall, but im sure that could be over come. My thought on the reciever though, is that i can get a demilled one cheap. Then i also wouldnt feel bad about cutting it up. and if i can just get a beater stock too. I will look into a gear box that could fit, if anybody has a good web site for them. I also like the gas idea, i might look into moding a cheap gas gun to work for it. then a resovoir could be put into the hand grip that would be filled from the bottom. well, like i said i will look into it. -Cary

Excuse me guys but a very well done, very effective gas carbine is already available from Marushin. Unlike the Garand they make, it works well and is under $400.00. (Real wood and mostly metal.) Currently only offered with a banana clip in the semi auto version but I'm sure they'll offer the short mag and maybe even the para version
An AEG would be awesome of course but as mentioned by M14 riflemen the size limitations are very extreme. I think building something that isn't already done makes sense but doing something that's already available is close to lunacy. Funnel energies to expand the market place not compete with currently existing well done offerings.

Add another gun to MY wish list. I want one worse, knowing it is out there. A real one from: home.att.net/~ra-carbines/garand.htmlis $1499.00?!?!?!? Amazing. We do live in the future. I stand corrected on the value/availability of real steel here. Ow. I have seen several Brownings of the type I am doing here offered as Airsofts, but none in the actual marketplace. It seemed the stumbling block was a target pricing of over $500. That is why we aimed for about half of that to start with. We wanted to make an affordable, easy to obtain item. We didn't want to end up in a wish book. If the Marushin is out there, even out of production, why re-invent the wheel? I agree.

Marushin is going to release a new M1 Carbine GBB in May. It will basically be the M2 w/o the selector switch and full auto.
And I think it was Inokatsu that is making the folding M1A1 para-stock for it.
Slainte!

Inokatsu (Formally Guarder) is going to be introducing a para kit for the Marushin M2. Pretty spendy gun by the time you get the rifle, a few spare mags and the kit but probably a very cool addition to ones WW2 arsenal. You did your own conversion on the cock it everytime gas carbine as I recall didn't you Guiness?

I was looking into this but why hasn't anyone looked into taking the guts from the 30rnd mags and putting them into real steel M1 mags and then use them with the M2 Carbine. I cant say for certain that its viable to do but I think worth exploring.
