Alright so after lost the rear peep sight for my Springfield at the event and I couldnt find it, so I decided that I would instead attach a ladder sight but it turns out there alot of $ ($60ish) so I said the hell with that, and being a model builder I set out to make a sight, now this is a rough aproximation but I did base it off a good photo I had and I think is relitively accurate.I may end up building another as this one was simply a prototype to see if if could be done and made functional, (a proof of concept build if you will). I dont have all the details added to it but here it is before I paint it. It really works the ladder sight is foldable and the peep hole can be moved up or down the ladder to focus of far away targets, which surprisingly does work for airsoft. Its also very durable but I dont intend to use it in any position but the folded position during a game to reduce the cance it might break. TommyGunner

It pays to have modeling skills. I hope you post a finished picture. I want to see what the paint job does and what (if anything) you are going to do with the paperclip. But I didn't even know you aimed??? Oh, with your 650-round Thompson you don't need to aim but with the Springfield you do. I get it now. Looks like the basis for another Revell kit if you ask me. Maybe a whole line of Revell plastic gun parts. I can see it now. Buy a G43 wood stock blank and get the Revell G43 plastic parts kit. Royalties!

That is not a crazy idea. Careful selection of what to offer could make a nice little endeavour. Look up resin model parts. Good example of a cottage industry.
If you can't buy it, Build it!
I had this idea for an UZI rifle...and a pile of LPEG parts. I now have an UZI rifle, complete with a crane-type stock. With all the mix-and-match going on, I'm suprised it hasn't happened yet. No picture due to 5th ammendment concerns...beg me, I might post a blurry shot that conceals some hackery (the whole project consumed ten minutes).
It will hang quietly at the corner of the gun wall. When the inevitable question comes, I'll just say I wanted to be the first.
Speaking of Cottage Industry, I'm going to take a cheapie .45 auto and make a copy of one of those "workbench rifles" that are so popular with beginner gunsmiths. This will look like a varmint rifle. It shouldn't be too hard to put one of my ver2 boxes into it.
Another plug for rustoleum paint for plastic here: Their satin black with a bit of clever detailing would do a good job of making the eyes see metal on that sight assembly.
Again, nice work TommyG. Are you using a cad program for your design work? The parts you make look cnc'd!

Nope no computers or fancy stuff just good old Styrene strips, glue, hobbyknife, imagination and an understanding of how to use gismology effectively.
Also Ersatzjak believe it or not I have already purposed airsoft gun kits and they didn't think it was too far fetched. Also at the next game Ill show you how well I can aim when I don't have to spend time mowing down the entire German team. lol
I should have the sight finished this weekend, I still need to smooth things out file down the edges and add all the little wheels and screws that would make the sight adjustable on the real thing. I have them built but I just didn't have time to glue them on before the pic, also the paperclip part will be hidden by a hood being placed over that area to look like the part that on the real sight would attach the ladder part to the base.

Looks great Tommy gunner. How much time though was involved in the build? It has to be time intensive to come out that nice. How do you mold the styreme so the lower portion wraps so nicely on your receievr group? Is that one of those deals where you can boil it and then shape it?
If I may recommend Testors Hobby Paint in Gun Metal mettalizer spray? It really adds a metallic look to plastics and is great to work with.

Hey Killbucket I have my M1928 conversion kit to base that off of and building that would be a piece of cake, It would probably take about a weekend to build but it is very possible, the only thing different from that compared to the Springfield ladder sight is the assembly it sits in.
2ndbat- I built the sight in about an hour, very easy to build (but thats only because I'v been a model aircraft builder for 6 years, so it was easy for me)
red0leader- These are fairly easy to make and if your interested I could make one for your Browning (Id need pics and dimensions though, and it would have to wiat till summer) and if people are interested over the summer I could make these for there 30cals or rifles.

Actually now that I think about it I could also make rear Springfield peep sights too, almost any sight infact can be made this way.

Well I painted the sight yesterday with textured blak rustoleum paint and it looks great, I painted all the harware to match this and it looks really good. Ill be going back today to do some drybrushing to bring some depth to the parts that were painted.
Ill have pics of my finished USMC riflemens impression up hopefully today featuring the Springfield. Ill also be posting on my finished/revised M1928 Thompson gunners impression too.
Also for kicks Im gonna see what I can do about making the M1928 sight this weekend, and if it comes out good Ill sell it simply becuase I would have no need for it.
Also the sight on the springfield is not perminent 2nbat is getting me dimensions and more detailed pics so I can build as accurate of a replica as possible to replace the one I already built.
