You're going to have to forgive me, but I'm sitting here wheezing my way through a nasty cold. Popular opinion seems to be that a seperate thread for custom bolt action rifle should exist. The question remains in what form?
For openers I would suggest that it be limited to entries that deal with a tutorial someone is posting on how they built a custom gun. Even a short tutorial will take up a lot of space and we don't need postings saying "cool dude" or "how much for one" taking up space. Second I feel that an outline should be agreed upon. Some of us are better writers than others and if we have an outline to follow we'll be sure all the pertinent data is entered.
In example, a tutorial should start with what you're trying to re create, what base guns, both real steel and airsoft are going to be used, the quality you expect to achieve (more on this later). What other componenets are used, and if there not easily found where you found them. Then the mechanics you had to go through to do the job and what you thought of the results.
Finally I think we should agree on discriptive terms to describe our results. The springfield I am finally finishing up is best described as "skirmishing quality". Anyone looking at it from 10 feet of more would say thats a springfield. At the other end of the spectrum is my TM thompson which I have handed to experienced shooters who do a double take. The point is that if you buy a gun advertised to be NRA "very good" you are pretty sure what you're getting. I think we need a similar criteria. What I'm asking for here is input in setting up that thread, and I'd like everybody to understand that I am essentially computor illerteriate. We have a phenomenal pool of talent here and I think if we can semi- orginanize it (I'm and anal retentive anarchist) it will a boost for the hobby.
