WW2 comunications

Aright the problem with field communications in airsoft has been bothering me alot ww2 field phones are expensive and sometimes hard to find, they are also a pain to set up and if the position they are in is lost so is that phone seeing as it is almost imposible to bring it back under fire. Communication between positions/ groups or units, is one of the main things that is lacking in WW2 airsoft (especially here in the midwest, yes Im talking about the US guys!) We really need to work on this.

So I was thinking why dont we have other ways communicate besides using the field phones brought by the 2nd Rangers, I statred to think about other field communication devices availale to the US GI and I came up with this.



Nothin new to us but what is new is the fact that I want to make these availabe to be used without dropping a ton of cash on originals (if you can even find them)

so I have devised a way to make them for about $10 each and if something doesnt come up saturday the prohibitsme from going to menards to get the material I hope to have one made possibly in a day but definalty in two weeks.

It will consist of a cheap walkie talkie pulled appart and put inside a box with PVC tubing for mouth pieces, and painted up and detailed up to look just like that photo.

The botton mouth peace and ear peace will be mounted in the respective spots, if all goes well I will create an instructions on how to make one, each unit playing should be equiped with one of these so they may talk to headquarters during a battle, this will also be used in conjunction with the field phones. I will also be looking into how viable a radio operatiors pack would be to make using cheap walkie talkies.

that would be awesome. Doesn't alleramilitaria have repro BC-611 radios? I'll bet theres a way to make them cheaper but i'd certainly buy one upwards of the $10 range.

this may seem like a lame suggestion, but has anyone seen those Ultimate Soldier brand (like a more detailed G.I. Joe) walkie talkies. They are the BC-611 models and it comes with two. from what i remember they are a good scale, but i never purchased them so i cant tell you for sure.

I just figure if you're gunna through a cheapo walkie talkie inards into them anyways, maybe this will work just as well.

Alleramilitaria does sell these for 60 dollars, they arent that hard to make, there was a thread on how to in the reenactors forum a while ago. Also they arent as hard to find on the internet as you may thing. If i find that thread ill let you know, you can also buy faceplates for it off ebay, and parts to make them more realistic.

The face plate is the only thing I would have to get everything else can be fabricated very easliy with styreen. And $60 is a good price but for a pair at $120 Im gonna see if I can make them first.

I wonder if anyone has dimensions other wise Im gonna simply wing it an make an aproximation for the prototypes. Im also gonna see if I can find a rectangular box thats already made, and then make the detalis for it. I did also find an old walkie talkie set in my house that Im gonna use for the insides.

The Ultimate soldier radios are perhaps 3/4 scale They are noticeably too small unfortunately as they actually look pretty good and are well done. For the purposes of accuracy you should know that in correct WW2 jargon the "walkie talkie" was a man back carried radio and the radio shown was refered to as the "Handy Talkie" Post war the small radio was called the walkie talkie and the name seems to have stuck.
