I'm about to sand/polish away the paint on my AGM MP40 to eventuelly get the whole thing blued, but when i tried to dissassemble the gun I stumbled across this horror: It's the left screw of the hop-up unit. I've removed almost every screw on the gun but this one seems impossible to get... I've tried every screwdriver I could find but the space just seems to damn small. Is there something I missed or does someone have some good tips on how to get the darn thing out?

that entire assembly/unit comes out by removing the outer barrel and pulling the bb barrel and works out. ....unfortunately you will discover (at least in my case) that the screw to release the barrel and the parts described above is made of cheese and will never come out.... look up the definition of " catch-22" Slainte! -G

The outer barrel came off quite easy, no problem with the screw there (the one on top of the threaded thing where the barrel meets the reciever). So now the inner barrel sticks out and there's no way to remove it + the hopup unit, since everything seems attached by the infernal screw described in the first post. I've double checked everything, it's impossible to get the things out without removing it... Something I need to do urgently.

FINALLY! I made a riskful move and hammered on the reciever carefully, until the hopup assembly-thing finally loosened... I was afraid I would break something since the fit was incredibly tight, it could as well been welded/glued in there for all I know... Anyway, now the problem is solved and I can resume my Ultimate MP40 project

the hop up and the inner barrel are kept in place from the two side screws, the two in the magazine housing and from the outerbarrel (that thing that if removed you can turn the sling hook). It's really strange...

Yes, I figured it out a while back. It was the threaded cylinder-shaped piece where the Hopup unit sits that was stuck very tight inside the reciever. I didn't even know it was removable at first! Not-so-on-topic: I've removed all paint from the metal parts now, and I will bring them to a gunsmith for blueing when I get some spare cash... Hopefully it will turn out quite authentic, still without being anywhere near the PGC TOP MP40 price range. If anyone is interested, I'll keep you informed!

Hi ck,
Could you post a picture or two of the stripped MP40 because bluing? Am interested to see what it looks like at that stage.

Hello,
It turns out i'm not going to blue it after all... The different parts of the MP40 are made of different metals, which will make the blueing result inconsistent, not durable or simply useless. That's what the gunsmith told me, so now I'm going to spraypaint it instead with a gun metal color that should turn out good!
I can post some pics of the whole stripped thing as soon as I get my camera to work.

Yes for theis update. That's actually what I was afraid of too when you mentioned bluing the gun.
Look forward to seeing the results of your further upgrading.
