Yeah, Marushin Kar98k... Is it impossible to turn this into a decent gun?

Define decent gun? Is it possible to make it a decent skirmish gun "no" Decent replica garage plinker "Yes" Like most Marushin guns it's simply not designed for skirmishing and isn't practical in that arena. That's my opinion. Others are certainly invited to chime in.

I mean "decent" as in somewhat skirmishable and upgradeble. Just wondering since the finish of the wood and scope mounts seem much more accurate to the RS than the tanaka version.

well it is a very nice piece, but if you ding the brass near the front that can really effect it's accuracy because the bb will travel like.... 2 inches inside the brass and if there are any blemishes it can do things to the flight path... though I'd bet that the hop up would negate most of that since it hits the hop up after that.... but if you get big dings like me, ha ha then that can effect it's fps. It's expensive though one of the most fun guns to just plink around with. Has great gas consumption, the bolt action sounds amazing but unless you're rich the cost of the shells is too much In my opinion. That's one reason why I don't mind going to a game with my Garand(if they do a semi auto round). Only one 10 dollar clip is ejected every 8 rounds compared to the Marushin 98k's 7 dollar brass every round. If I loose one clip at the end of the day it's no big deal, but if you loose one brass it's annoying if you're a perfectionist and want each stripper clip to have 5 rounds on it.
If you do get one, when you're loading the brass be sure to be pushing(or at least supporting the gun) be the floor plate. The previous owner of my 98k didn't support the floor plate and the plastic chipped. It is really fun though. You'll get allot of people who'll want to dink arround with it wherever you go.
