well before I try to reinvent the horse I am going to wait for warrens to see what he did with the gear box. Then, in the fashion of all good reverse engineers I will duplicate his effort and make it better.

Boots,
Read the whole thread. These are one offs and none of the projects referred to is finished as yet. It's doubtfull even when done they will be commercially available. Troy started this project almost two years ago.

That's a good price. I would also like to see the Magazine "boxes" like they have with the MP40 and Thompson. Magazines - let alone the actual gun - for Carbines are impossible to find. How much do you think shipping would be for a gun to get from the UK?

Probably around $60.00 shipping to the US. Don't hold your breath on these. Shoot n Scoot is apparently further along than anyone else but until he's done and has officially figured out what he needs to sell them for don't count on anything. As limited production small volume items I'll be amazaed if he can market them at $600.00 but I'm hoping to be wrong on that as it would represent a great value I think. Magazines will probably be spendy as well due to the limited volume production numbers (if available at all)

medic shipping will be spendy, probably 40-60 bucks. Looking at shoot and scoots prices I would expect this to be closer to 800.00. Mine uses an actual m1 carbine real steel trigger/mag housing so I will be making a bunch of low caps from surplus mags (very cheap to get.) Looking at some of warrens past pieces I bet he is using a casting of a real steel trigger/mag housing so that his should be able to use real steel mags.

I probably am too. I found one of the Marushin ones without a mag for like $234, and I think that these will sell out pretty quickly as well.

The Uzi gearbox is a unique design full of proprietary parts inside a plastic shell. Not the best gearbox choice is one wants something durable. Unfortunately, an AEP gearbox may be the only way to go, but we'll all have to patient and see what bubbles to the top.
Just using the Uzi motor is feasible, but aren't there other motors of similar size out there?

The issue isn't the motor, it is the gearbox configuration. There is no gearbox that will fit the low reciever profile of the M1 carbine. The gearbox will have to go either in the buttstock or the forestock or be done like scoot and shoots with a raised bolt and action.
The good news is that the uzi gearbox works perfectly for a reising, so that is what I will use it for instead. Most likely an M14 gearbox will be used and the raised bolt will just have to be the deal until someone makes a carbine specific gearbox.

This entire thread is enlightening and educational for anyone considering tackling a custom airsoft build with uncharted waters. Troyluckinbill as you see extended several years of yeoman effort and considerable expense (well over $500.00 in materials by his own admission) and in spite of tremendous skill, effort and creativity, failed to finish a functional rifle.
Ideally the day will come when a major manufacturer comes out with a reasonably powerful AEG M1 carbine but I don't see any on the immediate horizon.

Its the same gearbox thats in TM M14's, just the motor mounts at a different angle and there isn't a fire selector.
