So I opened up a Crossman R70 today... It was an M4 type gun that wasn't great. The stupid thing didn't have a rear sight! It was on the low end of the FPS spectrum and it didn't have a fantastic ROF.... but I opened her up.
It has a fairly small gearbox, plastic of course, but what made me think was the way it loads. The gun is gravity fed from a reservoir in a fake red dot scope... which is why there were no sights *groan* but I thought maybe a cheap project like some kind of Bren or the like would be interesting. Unfortunitly there is no Cushman Bren yet but it may be worth a try, or some other kind of gun with a top clip. Any thoughts? If this doesn't work out I will just pawn it off, with some metal parts added it may be workable for somebody else's cheap project.

Is this what you got? Im not too sure that can be used for much of anything really. I say maybe paint it up and use it for a prop. TommyGunner

You could try making it look like a Soviet DT, if you have nothing better to do. I have a weakness for tinkering with low-end guns as well, although most of them end up on Junk Mountain. Cheap guns are much less likely to survive conversion; odds are high that you will bust something important before the project is done.

Some of the Heavy Machine guns are gravity fed!!!
The system of gravity feeding does work. However, jams and misfires are likely. I would only use a gravity fed system in a gun that is air or gas fed and that also has recoil of some sort so that the BB's get moving around, thus, helping them feed better.
The Shoie MG-42 would be an awesome gravity fed gun! It would make reloading much easier!!! Just dump the ammo in!
Also, I thin some of the allied .30 cal machine guns are gravity fed as well. A Bren gun conversion would be excellent for some tinkering in my opinion!

Is there anyplace with dimensions or blueprints of the DT? That may be an interesting project.

Think for a minute before you get started. Do you really want invest time and expense in making something (hopefully) appealing visually that will never be functionally viable? If so knock yourself out.
