I've seen quite few custom gun built on forum and each had decent paint job done on them! I've bought a SHOEI MP44 not too long ago and plan to apply a realistic blueing looking paint for the recivers. The magazine and the forgrip were both Gun Steel and was well blued with gun blueing, but the recievers were made of Zinc Alloy so blueing does not work... Are there any recommandation of what paint i should get to create a realistic blueing feeling? This is what i am trying to achieve : )

Tommygunner where are you? He's the guy to ask about painting a good "Blue-ing" finish. If he doesn't post in a day or so, drop him a PM.

There's an technique used for a couple of centuries by theatrical prop departments to simulate blued steel called "French Lacquer." I believe it involved layers of lightly pigmented grey and deep blue glazes washed over a metallic base, but it's one of the old-school prop tricks I never learned from the old-timers. I've seen props tht they had finished this way, however. Done correctly, it looks very similar to worn blued steel.

Here is a thread I have made that actually deals with a blued steel finish. I am still working on it and I might be back home from NIU this comming weekedn to work on it more. I still need to add the glossy finish to it to darken up the blue but after i do I will post the materials needed and the process required. ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=1205295463TommyGunner
